Hello Corolla owners. My name is Tom, and I just registered here at ToyotaNation.com.
I have car fever REAL bad, and I would love to buy a 2010 Corolla S. If I were to go through with the deal, I would be trading-in my 2009 Yaris Sedan that I bought brand new only 13 months ago.
It's not so much that I am unhappy with the Yaris, it's just that the "new" has worn off, and I sure do like the looks of the Corolla S. I think I could be happy keeping a new Corolla S until is is paid off, but I don't feel the same about the Yaris.
Anyway, I wonder if anyone here once had a Yaris for his daily driver but has traded it in on a Corolla? If so, are you happy that you did it? What do you miss about the Yaris, if anything? How much difference in MPG between the two cars under the same driving conditions?
Hi and Welcome to Toyotanation. I have not owned a Yaris, but would consider the Corolla an upgrade. The Yaris is a nice car, but the center guages would be an annoyance to me, plus it has not rated too highly with Consumer Reports save for gas mileage and reliability. Just be sure to get the best deal for you, and get the Trip computer, if it is not already standard. Good luck

I haven't owned a Yaris, but I did spend a lot of time checking them out when I was buying a car in December of 2008. The Yaris is an awesome car. I went with the Corolla because I liked the extra space (even though the Yaris sedan is about the same size as my old 2001 Corolla) and it seemed to handle the freeway a bit better. I spend a lot of time on the freeway, so that was an important factor.
Unless you can easily afford to buy another new car, I'd stick with what you've got. I completely understand the "newness wearing off" (I was flirting with trading my Corolla for a Civic for a while...), but I can tell you that the feeling will pass and your bank account will thank you for not giving in to the desire for a shiny new car.
That's my .02. Do whatever works best for you.
PS- Don't forget to check out the Yaris forum on this site. It might help reinvigorate your passion for your car.

I own a 2010 Corolla but have driven a Yaris a few times that I have rented a few times when going on a long trip (so i don't put milage on my own car) and I think Both cars are great.
Between the Yaris and Corolla is night and day, the corolla is more smoother and roomier compare to the yaris. Also, the Corolla has a bit more power than the Yaris. MPG wise is very slightly different by not much, BUT if you do alot of city driving, the Yaris I'd keep the yaris.

Here's the deal I have been "semi-officially" offered. My salesman says that he thinks I can get this deal if I show up ready to sign the dotted line.
I buy the new Corolla S in Silver Metallic with auto tranny and with the following options or option packages:
QCS Extra Value Package #3
16" x 6.0" alloy wheels; P205/55R16 tires; Rear deck spoiler; Power windows with driver's 1-touch down; Cruise control; Remote keyless entry with key transmitter NOT AVAILABLE with AW, CL, PO, RF, SX.
CFCarpet Floor Mats
5-piece carpet floor and trunk mat set NOT AVAILABLE with Z1.
EVAM/FM 6CD Changer
AM/FM stereo; 6-disc in-dash CD changer; WMA/MP3 playback capability; 6 speakers NOT AVAILABLE with NV.
The sticker price is $19,005. I can get the car out the door, including TTL and the "processing fee" for $19,046.61. They are selling me the car at invoice price.
I would get $10,850 trade-in on my Yaris Base Sedan with 20,700 miles on it. It has power windows and mirrors and remote keyless entry. It is pretty nicely equipped.
I would get the Toyota 0% interest financing for 60 months, which is what I am on now with the Yaris.
The dealer offers free lifetime warranty on their new vehicles.
I would get free routine maintenance for the first two years.
I personally think that price is still a little high, but it's also pretty fair. IF you can afford it and it's what you want, go for it!
I've had some minor issues with my Corolla, but after a year and a half and 27,000 miles, it's really been an incredibly excellent car.
Yeah, the trade-in allowance is a little disappointing, but I would be getting the new car at invoice. I'm sure they would allow me more on the Yaris if I were paying above invoice on the Corolla.
They have a very similar deal as what I got on my 09 Camry le. $16.988 all in except tax.
Just a thought before you shell out 19k for a Corrola. There are several folks on here who have gotten leases from them, that is not for me but they seem to have good deals on them also. If you do a lot of Highway a Camry with the i-4 will surprise you. I get 35mpg all the time and have gotten 37 hwy mpg.
Any way just some thing to think about
I highly doubt that is invoice on the corrola. This price was 1000k below invoice for the Camry they wanted you to finance in house to get it but I got around that
So that means an 09 Camry "invoice" was around 18k

to TN Tom! It sounds like a decent deal to me & you get a lifetime warranty. You can also save yourself almost $1000 if you get a 5-speed. I love my 09 Corolla S.

Thanks for the tip, but if I trade, my heart is set on a Corolla S. They look so good, and they are "sportier" than the Camry. I can see a Camry replacing our piece of crap 2004 Impala someday.

Thanks.
I would consider a five speed. I was thinking that giving up the auto tranny would allow me to get the JBL sounds system, which I hear is awesome, for about the same overall price. I was getting the $200 six disc CD changer option, and between dropping that an the $800 auto tranny, I could get get the $1010 JBL sound system.
Automatics are sure nice at times, though. I like to sip coffee while I am driving once in a while, and while that would not be a problem on the highway with the five speed, it would be tough in town.

19,046.61 is not their invoice price, I can guarantee you that. 19,005 or the "sticker price" is the MSRP, 15,500-15,750 is a rough invoice price for a Corolla with those options, if it had a sunroof, it would be about 800 bucks more. Just for FYI, I bought my 2010 Corolla S with everything you have listed there for 17K out the door, that was under the 0% financing and 2 years free maintenance. I am assuming the lifetime warranty thing is power-train only, and is only applicable to their dealership and only if you have the car serviced there at EVERY single service. You can do better, keep shopping around. I can give you some good contacts in SW Virginia if you are willing to drive there.

I know that $19,005 is the MSRP or "sticker price." According to Edmunds.com. the invoice price is $17,346 plus whatever ad fees apply. My salesman said that the invoice price including ad fees is $17,669.
Here in KY we pay 6% sales tax on 90% of the sticker price, which works out to $1026.27 in this case. The dealer has a "processing fee" of $199.50. Adding these figures, $17669 + $1026.27 + $199.50, the total is $18894.77. I'm not sure what makes up the $151.84 difference between their $19046.61 and the $18894.77, but part of it would be the cost of registering the car.
