Lets start and say I am an owner of a Corolla S with the bells and whistles.
Love it to death but I have several issues I am really concerned about.
Firstly, is anyone else realizing how unrefined and how fragile the Corollas are?
Like when the car is off and parked, any movement by people in the car to shake the car a little results in a creaking or bending noise.
Then when you start up the car and shift it, you hear parts under the car!?!?
Then when you push the brake you also feel the noise under the car!
The brake feels overly sensitive and same goes with the accelerator.
I know I might be over reacting but...Still...I have driven older Corollas before and I see a huge improvement with this new generation in noise control but...What the hell!
I haven't test driven a Honda Civic yet but does one experience the same with that car?
I have driven an Avalon and Camry and they felt so much more refined and smooth. No sounds of parts or creaks. Very solid.
I have a 2010 Corolla S and I have had 0 problems, I have almost had it a year now. I have not noticed any of the problems you are talking about whatsoever You might want to get those things checked out as long as its under warranty. Good luck man

ive had my auto for more than a year and i havent had anyproblems. the camry i admit is smoother than our car and the avalon is more in the low-luxury class so it cant be compared.

^^I agree. Avalon is at the lower luxury class and the camry is MUCH mor smoother and refined. To me the civic is "nice" but I wouldn't buy it after I test drove it......I dont like the euro gas pedal all that much, the fact that it has a single overhead cam engine unless you have the Si, the ugly stupid minivan wipers, but most of them do come with a sunroof and all wheel disc brakes but thats all that I like about it just my opinion
My corolla only has the steering wheel noise and thats about it and mine was made in the NUMMI plant and not in Japan or canada which would have been MUCH better
I also do agree that the brake assist kicks in too easily! I slammed on the brakes when the light was about to turn red and the car stopped too well and I was about 6ft short of the thick white light.....I looked really stupid...
all cars shake/make noises/etc in any car when people move the car will react as a result of it. there are somethings that you shouldn't allow to bother you. like the steering wheel cracking noise bothered me but I know that if it under warranty for 6 years 75,000 miles then Im okay with it : (I have the extended warranty) if at any point it did bother me.......im covered same with you.....if you dont like a noise the car is making then take it too Toyota and B!@#$ at them until you get what you want lol

I have a 5 speed 2010 S, and also had a 2010 Civic LX-S. I hated it. I am so much happpier with the Corolla.
Toyota seems to handle better and is more fun to drive. The Civic was an automatic so im not sure about shift noise.
I also hear the noise with shifting. IMO its just the way most cars are. If you want to reduce it you could try flushing the tranny and putting in royal purple or another high end tranny fluid.
As for the creaking noices... Id get that checked out. It could be something serious or it could just be from sitting a while and will go away.
Definitely agree with the brakes, but you will adjust. It took me a good week or two. It seems to be worse when cold

Only issues I have with 09 Corolla S (auto) is the occasional squeeking/creaking noise. Despite the car being new, I am totally willing to overlook this issue because I bought the car to be my commuter to work. It gets great gas mileage, is pretty comfortable overall, large enough trunk for my gear, and has great options (TC, airbags all around, JBL stereo, keyless entry) and is cheap to maintain.
However, previous vehicle was a 2007 Nissan Sentra SE-R spec-V (6-spd) and the ride COMFORT and HANDLING was SUPERIOR. You can get one of these cars with an optional LSD for LESS than a Corolla XRS. It's a long story why I traded that car in (messed with stereo and caused all kinds of electrical problems (bad instal job)) then changed rims and immediately regretted selling OEM rims. All in all I personally wrecked the vehicle and needed a fresh start-- lesson learned!
All I am saying is that if you want to spend about 21k-- and have a SILENT highway ride, a SMOOTH hwy ride (not jarring like the magazines say you get with a sporty suspension) and also a truly capable car around turns. I never heard a single rattle or creak in the Spec-V... EVER.. even on extremely bumpy roads. No noise under the hood or in the engine, no mechanical problems or concerns. It handled like a dream, and would go all the way to redline without ever coming up flat. Problem is it is not ideal for a DD because you can't have any fun with it driving in traffic. You feel imprissoned (sp?) I fully plan to buy a used one in 3-4 years as my weekend car. Superior to my aunt's 3-series in comfort and handling. Best car I have ever owned, or driven in, period. Plus it will run on regular. I appologize if my post has become off topic.
The overly sensitive breaks and gas pedal are so hard to get used to. I've had the Corolla for almost a year now and I still can't get used to it.
I'll be going down a hill and just tap the brake and the brake pedal sinks in and brakes FOR ME.
I was like WTF?!?! The car then slowed down too much and I almost got rear ended. Had to apologize to so many people behind me.
That's a safety feature - but agree that it can sometimes be surprising. If someone behind you complains - they're following too close. Their own stupidty and should have bought a Toyota with stronger brakes.

WORRIED and CONCERNED!! AHHH
The sensitive brakes are a result of EBD and the power-assist braking system. The accelerator is drive by wire which is characteristic to feel twitchy. I would change or develop a lighter touch on the pedals to adapt to this. I would have to disagree with the unrefined comment, the Corolla is one of the nicer cars in its class. It's still an economy car so more road and exterior noise will reach the inside of the cabin since the car is not as well sound-proofed. Compared to the Camry and Avalon which are two different classes of cars altogether so you can't really make a legitimate argument there. My uncle owns a new 2011 Camry and it's still prone to squeaks and rattles even though it's still new. The 10th gen Corolla is much quieter and comfortable than the current Civic which I've had the chance to experience on a few occasions.
I see no reason to be worried or concerned.
