Because an automatic is easier to drive for most. Look for a new one, interest is 0% on the LE and you pick what you want not have to pick through a bunch of cars that somebody else wanted.
Of the 4 Toyota dealerships in my city, only two manual 5-speeds seem to exist.
I've driven a manual for 20 years. I've driven rental cars that were automatic and I was bored to tears... it was torture!!
I have 2002 Corolla S that I had to order new because not ONE manual was in stock any dealership in the city.
Looking for something new in a manual in a sea of automatics... this is frustrating
I felt the same way & I was willing to order what I wanted if I had too. I was not going to pay $1000 for an option I hated! I found a 5-speed just in time. I taught my oldest daughter to drive a 5-speed & she loves it. People are too lazy these days & don't enjoy the driving experience & being one with the machine. I love my 5-speed. In Europe almost everything is a manual.

Indeed!
My corolla is a 5-speed as well, and once we found it for sale, we had to jump on it!

A/T for life.
Yay for not having to use our parking breaks or stalling on hills.
^_^
Stalling on hills=not skillful enough, it has nothing to do with the design of the manual transmission.
Parking breaks, parking won't break your car at all...haha. Parking brake=emergency brake, it doesn't matter whether it is an auto or manual, you still use it.

Being one with the machine... absolutely right. I feel like I'm in total control of my car with a manual.
My girlfriend in high school taught me how to drive a manual. I struggled with it for a couple of months, then one day... BAM... it all clicked and I've never looked back.
You won't have to worry about stalling on hills if you learn how to drive one correctly In 20 years I think I've stalled twice (after practice). I stalled a few months back... I think I was daydreaming
That's what most people driving A/T cars are doing!

Ah brake. I always forget there's two.
Even better, no skills are required. Most of the people in my state cant drive anyway.
The option of stalling is almost nonexistant on an Auto.
and I really dont see many people using that E brake w/ an auto in comparison to a stick.

You got that right!
BTW... love your Corolla S. The Classic Silver is quite nice... probably the best looking color they have to offer.
Thinking about all these new cars makes me think I should cancel my shop appt. for my 02' S. I'm wishy washy when it comes to making decisions like this. I hate to abandon my car, but at the same time... it would be nice to step foot into something cooler, cleaner, and more reliable. I've spent about $4000 on her in the last few years. Could have had a new car paid for by now
I went with an auto as my DD. I drive on one of highest congested highways in California. I'm fine with my A/T for now.
My next car is going to be a v6 manual

Yup, take rate on manuals for any Toyota is pretty low nowadays. Honestly, you might want to look at other makes too if you can't find the right Toyota model with stick.

i agree, my parents only let me get an auto because my parents didnt believe i knew how to drive a manual(never told them i learned) and because i have to sometimes lend my car to my family members/relatives. Of course i didnt argue since i used to drive all city so it was stop sign after stop sign and uphills all day. But probably after i get out of college or actually get that project car ive wanted for my mechanics class, ill have my very first manual car
