I am keeping this car!

I got off the waitlist at a really competitive program, so I quit my job, packed up my corolla, changed the oil (I always use Mobil 1 5w30 extended performance) and drove 1550 miles in two days.

Avg Speed: +/- 75 MPH (gps verified)
MPG: 36.8

craziness

I am going to change it again tomorrow even though the dipstick is super clean and the oil levels are exactly what they were before the trip. This was a good buy. I have the utmost faith that this will last me through 4yrs of school, residency, and beyond.

Back in June, I drove my 09 Corolla with a friend of mine from Claymont, DE (just south of Philadelphia) to Shreveport, LA. Drove straight through, only stopping for gas and the occasion food/bathroom breaks. Averaged about 75mph and averaged 39.6 MPG. A couple days later drove from Shreveport, LA to Austin, TX. While in Austin, took a day trip and drove down to San Antonio with friends. A few days later, made the trek back home. It was worth trip, but boy was that a lot driving. 24 hours from DE to SHV. 6 hrs from SHV to AUS. 1 hr from AUS to San Antonio.

wow thats a lot of driving! but do you have to change the oil? if it was clean why change it? and to the South ROFL and what school are you going to? oh and be careful, my cousins go/went to LSU and they said that the roads there are really bad and dirty. Cousins silverado was hit by a medium sized sheet of metal and went through the windshields of the truck nearly hitting him.....and a lot of inconsiderate drivers....at least when I was there maybe it changed since then. But yeah be careful!

Haha, I went to Las Vegas last year with my friend's dad camry (2007)... from Dallas and it was 1,200+ miles... We started the trip at 9 in the morning and got there around 5 the next morning, and of course we did stop for lunch, dinner and break. Hella fun and will do that again in the future...

Thanks for the welcome! I am going to Tulane Med. woo! The drive was crazy and the drivers are even crazier. Im from Boston, and I am terrified of the drivers here.

Some of you guys are getting crazy MPG's! I dont think I would have achieved the same because I was running Mobil 1 5w30 (higher viscocity), had everything I owned in the car, was riding with my dad, the terrain was very hilly after New Jersey/Pennsylvania, and the AC was working hard. Long list of excuses (i know)... haha

This car is solid, and Im happy with it.

No prob and CONGRATS on getting into med school! yeah sorry about the crazy drivers....I taught myself to think that all drivers are morons and then when someone uses their signal or something, Im like "oh look he used his signal, what a good driver" haha Im stupid like that but it does keep me really calm when driving and you can use 5w30 in our cars? the cap says something like 5w20 and/or 0w20. When my friend hooks me up at the dealer he puts in Valvoline 0w20 which works well IMO and in all city driving I get ~27 and sometimes 25

dunno. i run conventional 5w30 and my highway average is always 41+ mpg (calculated, not from the computer), though this is closer to 60-70 mph average.

Im getting into the grove of things here. Ive put down 600 miles exploring the city in just a week. lol (I also checked out Baton Rouge) The walmart supercenter is crazy! There's everything that you need here, even groceries. haha

I use 5w30 extended performance synthetic because it passes more tests and has more certifications than the 0w20 and 5w20 (breakdown under stress and over time). I dont baby this car so I think its better to go with protection at the expense of mpg.

Yeah Louisiana is really fun and by the sound of it, you haven't been to a walmart supercenter?

I go to WVU and we mainly get people from Pennsylvania, NY, De, and MD, and it suck sto drive here. Everyone has an attitude and thinks they have the right away. Basically green means go fast, yellow- go faster, red-go fast and act like the light's still green.

You get these same people everywhere...
