DBW Delete

In my area I've seen many crazy things done to cars, from full JDM Type R conversions that don't pass CARB emissions to Corollas with a full interior change. I was send an email about a Civic SI that did a drive by wire delete and now has a throttle body wire conversion. I was wondering if we could have that done and how much would it cost us?

It would cost a butt-load probably. The ecu reads everything it can about the TB such as position, airflow, temp, etc. It would be more trouble (and money) than it's worth.

Yes, unfortunately. If it was a linear signal STRAIGHT from the pedal to the TB then it would be great, but running everything through the ecu creates millisecond delays that are very noticeable, not to mention the computer tries to adjust the throttle response and position. The whole point of the gas pedal is to adjust the throttle position. Otherwise it's like telling the car how fast you want to go, then letting the computer decide how longs its gonna take you to reach that speed (sorry for the rant)

While all that may be true, if you want a more responsive DBW system you will have to pay more money. The DBW system on a 911 is very responsive, but look at what it costs! You just have to remember what the Corolla is & what it costs. I'm sure that DBW systems will continue to improve over the coming years.

The cheapest route you can go is getting an electronic throttle controller and even then its a good 300+ bucks

I have a Pivot 3drive installed in my XRS. It works quite well. Blitz also offers one as well.

In the "Import Tuner" that I was reading today there was a letter from the editor trying to explain the benefits of DBW & the ability to better control the tuning of the throttle. It was an interesting read & made very good sense.

Pivot 3-drive with TH-2A harness is what you need for the Corolla.

It has 2 modes (Sport and Economy) which alter the response curve of the pedal. Sport has 7 modes and Economy has 5 I believe. I always leave mine set on Sport 7, but I did try other Sport modes and Economy modes, they are all quite effective.

The difference is definitely nice.
