I have seen people come in at all certain mileages for that concern. My guess is it becomes more noticeable over time? This is caused by the flat edge of the pads, the edge of the backing plate to be more precise, hitting the caliper body when the brakes are applied while the vehicle is moving. The brake pad pins can also contribute to this noise as well. Since the pads are loaded against one side of the caliper as a result of moving and braking while driving forward, they shift to the other side when the brakes are applied while your car is moving backward which causes the clacking sound. The difference in the length of the pad backing plate and the slot in the caliper body is very small but is enough to allow for the pad to shift while braking in the reverse direction and thus causing the clacking noise to occur.
