Had my corolla in for the TSB for the EPS and the gas pedal shave today. While I was there I had them do the second oil change on my vehicle. I had previously had them used 0W20 synthetic. Spoke to the service writer and asked for the 0w20 synthetic again and he concurred and noted that my previous visit was 0w20 as well. Well when I got home I noticed on the receipt that it said 5w30. I called and was told that they used 5x20 blend and that the computer always prints 5w30 when they use bulk blend. I proceeded to explain that I had asked for 0w20 and he replied that Toyota doesn't require 0w20 synthetic. I explained it was my preferrence and what I asked for. He continued on and I just hung up. I wasn't charged the typical premium for the synthetic but didn;t realize that until I got home as there were other items on the receipt.
I feel I should go back and insist that they dump the oil and pull the filter and start again with 0w20. A free oil change later would hurt for my inconvenience either.
Thoughts?
Oh and the pedal cutting didn't look as bad as some others I have seen posted but I still prefer the facotry look so I will probably ask for a new pedal too.
They should, if worst comes to worse have them pull the RO and see if it is really noted. Parts guys miss billing out synthetic as well. The oil probably comes out of a second gun.

Your car and fuel economy won't notice the difference between 0w20 and 5w20. Unless you know what to look for on the spec sheets, you probably couldn't tell on there either. To dump it would be a waste of perfectly good oil, considering you weren't billed for it, I wouldn't pursue it any further then the complaint.

Just another reason that I do my own oil changes, that way I know exactly what was put into my engine.

my oil change receipt states 00279-1QT20 as 5w-20 parts #. I wouldnt worry about it at all. you wont notice the difference at all.
I just dug out the dealer's receipt for the routine maintenance I had earlier this month. It only says "020 OIL GOG MOTOR OIL." So I have no idea what they put in.
I work at a dealership in Nova Scotia and The new 2011 Corolla's will come factory with synthetic oil. Plus if you asked to have synthetic done they should have to re-do that at no cost to you, that's there mistake not yours, the gas pedal was a voluntary re-call so they probably won't replace that for you.

Dealer WILL replace your pedal with a new one if you ask for it after you get it shaved. It's part of their recall protocol.
Is it true that if you go with Synthetic you can not go back to regular oil?
Did the dealership put regular or synthetic 5w-20?
It is, and it's not. They say you shouldn't but I've done it before and it's never caused me any greif. Oil is oil, as long as your changing it, you shouldn't have any issues.
Not what my service adviser said, he clearly stated the they will not replace with a new pedal.
The US consumers were giving different resolutions when it came to the gas pedal recall. If they weren't happy with the feel or looks of the pedal after the two services were performed, Toyota would replace it with the new re-manufactured unit. Unfortunately, the Canadian Toyota consumers were not offered the same deal. Therefore, the differences in the responses (note the response and the location of the member). I had the recall done but would say "no thank you" to the shaved pedal. Also in my case, the shaved pedal would definitely catch on my WeatherTech Liners (no chance with the original length).
