Water pump covered under drivetrain warranty?

So I dropped off my 09 rolla at the dealership today so the mechanic can tell me the water pump is going bad. I had one go bad at 20k miles and now Im at 45k.

This should be covered under the 60k drivetrain warranty right? Im going to be seriously pissed if they tell me its not.

Wasnt the pump!

Good news:

Bad new:
Wasnt the water pump, it was the Cam Gear.

This sounds terrible, anyone else had this replaced?

Its usually caused by oil pressure loss.

What would cause this? Car is relatively new.

Just had the cam gear done this week actually - car made a god awful noise when I started it... Did some research and there was a TSB on it.

Basically the intake cam is starved of oil on start up and it makes it grind until the system can lubricate. The TSB is only good until 60k, so for those of you that have no warranty beyond that, if your car is doing this, I recommend taking it in before 60k.

Fixed problem, gas mileage "seems" slightly better.

SB0087-09R1 is the TSB #.

got er done

So I asked them to show me the part they replaced, it was a single gear, the parts list names a camshaft timing gear. Something to do with the VVTi.

It was per TSB 0087-09.

Thanks all

Dealer also told me that the bad part was already a revised part #, which makes me really worried that it could happen again right after it passes 60k mi.

I dunno about that man - The TSB only applies to vehicles having the original "bad" part - if you read it the # it is replaced with is 1 higher than the one in the car... But take it back if it still makes that sound - no car under any circumstance should make that noise, especially a year old Toyota.
