Corolla 1.8l shifter bushings

Hi Guys
I read about short shifters and replacement bushings from TWM, but can i just install the bushings on my stock shifter?

http://www.twmperformance.com/bushingkits/index.htm

The reason i ask is i often don't push the shifter far enough in 3rd gear!
I miss the feeling of shift linkages, it was more direct...

You sure can replace just the bushing....but tell you what...the TWM short shifter feels great...

I'm used to old VWs, that used shift linkages, don't know if i would like the shorter shifter, but i would like the shorter shifter movement...

it's too bad i can't have one without the other...

I thought the corolla had shift linkages? The link you provided says its for a cable shifter, but at the point where those bushings are installed, it is definetly not a cable.

The Corolla does use a cable setup, those bushings go into the ends of the cables.

These will slightly reduce slop in the shift linkage, it will not shorten shifter movement, for that you need a short throw shifter.

The slop is something i'd like to remove. Jeff, any idea if there is long term damage that can be caused by this?

I just realized that TWM is local to where i live! nice! i'll be visiting them next week!

I noticed on their site that they have a short shifter kit with the bushings i want, and they make a shift extension kit! So i can have the short throws from the short shifter, and keep the stock height!

Anyone know if this can wear out the syncos faster in the transmission since it's shifting faster than it should??

You should really try the shifter height after you installed the TWM short shifter. You may actually like it that way. Since the shift extension is extra $, may as well just try the short shifter height first.

I would hate the lower height as I always seem to have a drink in my cup holder & I'd have to position my hand up & over the cup to reach the lower stick. As the height it now I can rest my arm on the arm rest & shift without even moving my arm.

jim, the solution to that is to buy a twm shift knob along with the SS kit, as their shift knobs are height adjustable you will find you can adjust its height close to stock shifter height.
