From your perspective, what is clunky? Also (no offense intended), have you had experience with 5 speeds before? When I taught my son how to drive a stick earlier this year, it was very "clunky" for awhile . Typically that would occur if you are popping the clutch or shifting at an RPM too low.

Sounds like you are shifting at a normal RPM. I have not noticed any issues with the 5 speed except for the throws being a little long.

Highway miles dont give you alot of practice driving stick. Drive around the city for a while and get some practice in. Try shifting at a bit higher RPMs (3-3.5K is about where I shift). And yes. This cars shifter stinks.

I've had no complaints with my manual on my S. It shifts very smooth. The throw is normal for a DD but that can easily be changed with a SS kit. You can also change the bushings & it will improve on the factory rubber bushings to get kid of any sloppiness in the shifter.
