Considering Corolla, Whatdo you think of these?

Possibly considering a Corolla as a commuter car. Just looking for basic transportation that is reliable and economical. Don't really want to spend alot of money, so was looking at these.

All are rental returns and have about 50k miles on them. What do you think of the price?

the price is fair for a non rental car....prices in Cali for the 10th gen corolla with around 50k miles are pretty close their prices (asking of course)...im not a big fan of buying a rental car tho, they are pushed a little harder than most cars...but if they have the maintenance records and it pass inspection and ur happy with it go for it

Prices seem a bargain for the age and mileage. Check it out properly with some experienced mechanic or your AAA. For a DD you won't go wrong even if they're rentals. But do check it out properly.

What rental car agency are they through? My buddy was a top regional manager for Enterprise and they serviced their cars well. I would negotiate the prices a little lower though.

I was a manager for Enterprise for 7 years back in the early 90's. I had to make sure that my fleet had regular oil changes every 3k miles & all maintenance.

I will never buy a rental car personally....although the company may take good care for maintenance work but you never know what the renter actually did to the car. You know....people who drive rentals like they stole it....

I too prefer to keep a car & that's why I like to buy new. No worries about how it was driven.

+10

I've bought, new and used before.
I never worry about how the previous owner drove it.

The only thing I look for is major collisions on record, and replacement suspension parts.
That is a tell tale sign of either hitting objects or other cars.

Good thing about rental cars are they are kept OEM. Corolla holds their resale value and price difference between new and used are so close especially the last year or so with the O% and incentives.

For now, I really don't want to spend much. But would like something that is reliable and economical. Seems like these cars have had the bulk of their depreciation already.

What would a car like this go for new right now? Is the only difference between the 09 and 10 the stability control?

If you don't want to spend alot...A good day to day reliable car. Go get a 9th gen corolla or matrix. If you can get find yourself a XRS trim, even better.

Don't limit yourself in the rental car market, go search around. Rental cars are usually the cheapest trim level, not really a big fan of that.

I had an 03 that I bought new. It was an LE with sunroof, alloys, etc. Honestly, I really didn't like that car. The driving position was horrible. I think I really need the telescoping steering wheel as I am 6'3".

For those of you that have owned both the 9th and 10th gen, is the driving position improved in the 10th gen?

The 10th Gen is more comfortable & has more room, I'm 6'2".

Considering I graduated HS in 1980 I've had many years of work. In the mid 80's I worked in the auto parts business as a manger at Pep Boys. I than worked for Enterprise & than spent many years in the audio/video business. That was when I decided to go back to school & into the medical field to be an X-ray Tech.

I've had great luck buying new & used cars over the years. If I'm going to keep the car & I like the current generation than I'll look at new. If it's something not made, like when I wanted a 1st Gen MR2 than I had no choice & looked at used. I've always been most concerned about body damage though on a used car.
