Going through firewall... had to cut the grommet but it pops out easily and back in easy too... (pop it out from the inside)
Inside, also remote turn on
Over the bracket behind the steering column
Upgraded neg gnd, should be bigger though
neg gnd, on trunk latch hook
Shielded rca
The front door speakers were a bitch to wire. Passed the wire through the tubing between the door but had to use a 14ga wire to fish >.< (part of a 14/2 wire with the plastic casing). Had to pop out both ends of the tubing to get the 14ga wire through.
Tried some fish tape, coat hanger wire, some other wire.
Setup version 1
Setup version 2, w/ subs in
New head unit, JVC KW-avx830
Removable faceplate
3-Band Parametric iEQ, really 12 control point eq.
need to set up a bit more, still not completely tuned yet.
Stuff still to do:
Faceplate for h/u
Clean everything
Power distribution blocks
Maybe rebuild sub box
Carpet sub box
Rack drawer on rails attached to top of sub box to hold amps(yes lots of room there)
Some cables need to be a bit longer
More cable ties, tubing
Maybe replace front tweeters
Upgrade Neg cable on battery from 1 to 0 to match.
Haven't had any power problems yet and I've been running the full setup for a while(except the avx830, that was installed today).
Looking great so far, Pat! Good job. I want to see what it looks like with the dash all put together.

Im looking to adding a set of 10's to mine. I was wondering will the stock headunit be able to to be used for the subs? Im new at all this sound stuff.

At work I've asked the guy that works in car audio and he told me to get a 12" because he and I have heard 10" subs and they have this weird raspy sound.....hard to describe.
what about the BB you work at? The discount is gonna be niiiiiiiice and I heard that we do get good discounts on the Viper 5901 but they are going to hit us employees hard with installation....he advised me to just pay for it normally and then get the install for remote start and alarm and it should be slightly cheaper but Im going to make sure that its not too buy.
My friend told me there is this place called "mobile 1" that does installation for $1 and is good but we both have no idea how much the system would cost.

Hey,
you're gonna need an amp to power the subs of some sort.
You can use the head unit to get the sound to the amps, and correct me if I'm wrong but you can use the acc wire going to your stock h/u as a remote turn on... just use some self stripping tap connectors or something.
Good job, Pat.
I love your usages of wire looms. If you ever get into competitions, those are required.
But can I make a few suggestions?
1. Lose the electrical tape and use connectors.
2. Bolt down everything once you're done.
3. Run all your wires neatly along edges when possible.
4. It's a good idea to ground each component to a separate ground point.
5. Use a Bosch-type relay for turning on your rear stuff. A deck's turn-on lead can easily fry inside the deck if you try to turn on too many items with it. Some people tend to disagree, but feel free to ask any reputable car audio place. In fact I first learned this from Crutchfield about 25 years ago. Your one blue turn-on lead can turn on as many components as you want as long as you hook it to a relay. You'll need a separate power wired to the relay.
6. Try PhotoBucket (it's free also). ImageShack takes forever to load images.
I don't claim to be some kind of expert but I've been doing car stereos and alarms for about 35 years, so I might be able to answer some of your questions if you have any. If I can't, I can get an answer for you very quickly.
Good luck with the system! Keep us updated!

I feel you on this one, I have yet to calculate the total but it's somewhere in the 2-3k region(would of been 3-5k if I didn't get the discounts on amps & subs)

I had to take a bunch of stuff apart today so I need to re-tape all the wire looms, etc :/
But can I make a few suggestions?

It's coming, I gotta find some decent distributor blocks, but I gotta order online, nobody around here carries 0ga. I guess I could trim part of it to fit but I'd rather not. Doing it properly the first time is such a bonus...

Soon! I gotta get some rails and a drawer table for the amps and it should make stuff a lot cleaner.

Thought I was already doing this? Could you elaborate pls?

Yeah, this was a bit of debate about how I wanted to do my setup initially, although I haven't had any problems with what I've done so far, so we'll see.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll take a look at setting that up.

I hate to say it, but you would have saved over half of what you payed if you had purchased everything from Sonic Electronic or on Amazon like I did. Only a few of my components were purchased anywhere besides those places and everything but the CD Changer was brand new.

Actually, the company I work for used to be part of Harman International, and I got all my amps and subs at like 80-90% off. I didn't spend more then 800 for all of that. What cost was the damn head units(2), mats to make sub box, wires, etc. (Actually even the 0ga amp kit was given to me at half price because the shop I went to couldn't sell it)
I can't tell you exactly what I paid but to sum up:
Infinity kappa four is around 400-500USD, I think 700 MSRP.
JBL GTO 14001 looks like its around 450-600USD, 800 MSRP.
JBL W10GTi MkII around 350-500USD, 700 MSRP (x 2)
My costs were much, much lower.
Also it really sucks having to pay duties on everything from the US, so I don't order online as much since it ends up costing about the same or more.
What I plan to do though is eventually get a beagle board(http://beagleboard.org/) in there with a liliput screen, and etc... Then maybe get some QNX CAR in there http://www.qnx.com/products/qnxcar/
but that's a long road still.
+ I'd have to re-write part of the interface to suite my needs...
I only mentioned running the wires all neatly tucked away because the only wires I saw like that were the ones running along your trim. But the ones in back will look better once they're all tucked away.
As for the PhotoBucket suggestion, that's up to you. But a lot of people don't like waiting for pictures to load, and will often stop looking after a few minutes. I have the highest speed broadband internet I could get and your pics took like 20-30 seconds each to load. If it doesn't bother you then I don't really care. It was a friendly suggestion.
Yeah, it's certainly nice to have some extra money to buy stereo stuff! When I started buying all my stuff, I was given $75,000 in tax-free cash from a life insurance policy. It was so nice because I already had a full-time job as a Cam Grinder. But I sort of overspent. I really should have just stuck with a deck and some speakers. I worked on the amp rack for over 6 months!!! Only because I was always out riding my new motorcycle instead of staying home and working on my stereo.
No plans just yet to do it all again. In fact I haven't done ANYTHING to my Camry in 15 months besides replace the cheap Kenwood deck with a nice Alpine. No nice speakers. No amps.

Yeah. Lol those wires were kinda hard to tuck under the trim in the first place. if I run one of them in the wire loom its not as bad but there's still a lack of space :/ I thought about cutting out parts of the trim to help the wire go through but I decided to let it be.
I guess I didn't really look elsewhere for image hosting, I'll try PhotoBucket next time. Although they may have taken a bit of time to load since I left them at original resolution, so they are 2-3mb files.
I guess it depends if you have the time to do it, because it does take a bunch of time if you're doing everything yourself.
