AUX input problem

The Aux input on my 09 rolla has started to mal-function.

I plug my ipod into the auxillary input and if the cable wobbles as i drive and hit bumps, the AUX mode switches over to RADIO mode and the radio starts to play, instead of the ipod.

I have to wiggle the cable before i press the AUX button for it to start playing the ipod.

How can I fix this? Any ideas?

I'm not trying to sound sarcastic, but it sounds to me like your stereo needs to just be replaced. Probably NO way to fix the problem unless you have the patience to remove it and tear into it and see if something needs soldered. But the chance of actually fixing your problem is slim to none. You can find brand new decks with CD and ipod jacks on the front for less than $100 at a lot of places, even cheaper on e-bay. And if you need a wiring diagram for your particular vehicle's stereo wires let me know and I'll get it to you.

Hey man, thanks!

If i replace my radio...then my steering wheel buttons will not work with the new deck.....which is why im trying to solve this problem without having to replace the deck.

It sucks that its loose or something....I barely even use it

You actually need to replace the AUX assembly, its common in the corollas for the aux assembly to go bad (which its the little hole where you connect the aux cable) what happens is when the aux connection is lost (when hitting a bump) the head unit auto. detects there's nothing plugged in and turns on the radio mode. If you still under warranty I think there's a TSB for it // The hard part is getting to it you are gonna have to take a bunch of panels out. From the shift knob on so you can get to the aux assembly

Not true.

Same thing is happening to me. I just took mine to Toyota and they are replacing it for free because the car is under warranty. The part actually just got in today so im taking my car tomorrow to get it replaced.

What part? That he probably can't fix it himself? Or that it's an internal problem? Or that something is fried? Come on, man, everything I posted was true. He never mentioned anything about a warranty, or he probably would have had it at the dealer by now. So regardless of how many of you are having the same problem, my point was that you can't fix it yourself. Until I hear of someone doing their own repair I'll stick to my words.

By the way, I'm only offering some advice based on the description he gave. Sorry if I forgot to suggest he take it to the dealer and get it fixed under his warranty.

before you go replacing anything try this

I had the same issue a while back when I was using my ipod with the aux input
and sometimes even when you twist the cable the music stars playing again.

What ever device you are using to connect to the aux input, grab a can of compressed air and blow inside the device whole where the input goes in. Basicly clean the 3.5mm jack in your device with air and maybe a paperclip to get the lint out of there is any.

Apple cleaned mine for me and it fixed every issue.

I appreciate your help, and yes its still under warranty. I just dont like mechs touching my car if I can do it myself

I think the biggest issue is the last thing on your list, and I say that because I believe you were assuming the "AUX" plug was on the radio, which it isn't. It is a separate part mounted at under the climate control. 99% of the time if there is an issue, it is with that little jack, not the radio itself.

To the original poster, try a new cable first. I've seen a few cables that aren't that great quality that are just slightly too small, and when you go over a bump, it moves and the radio thinks it was unplugged. If this still doesn't help, you'll probably need to replace the AUX port. Whether you get Toyota to replace it, or order it yourself. It's not very hard to change.

for the record..idk if this has been answered..the search button is your best friend..

i have posted something about this months ago and the solution is *drum roll*

go to the dealer

state the issue AUX port malfunction-loosing connection from aux to radio..(there is a cut in the aux port plug..there is a TSB for that

it should be covered under warranty..

no offense to the dude who said it doesnt fix the problem..it did to me..and i have had it fixed for over 4 months..

good luck to the person who posted this..get it fixed asap..once you confirm w/ the dealer the dealer would order the part w/ you and will schedule a return date to get it installed.
