Does driving the car in the rain rust the car? (I park the car always in the Garage)
Hi,
I bought a 2010 Corolla, back in April with my hard earned money while working and going to school at the same time. I was wondering if driving the car in the rain rust the car? I park the car always in the garage, and when I drive the car in the rain and when I get home and park it, I always wipe it down with a dry cloth. Fall is a rainy season, and would like to drive my 2010 as much as possible before switching to the old car.
Am I being too paranoid or too much care for the car?
This is my first new car. I also have a 96 corolla (past down from my parents) to drive around as my first car but I canceled the insurance until winter because I recently finished school and don't have enough money to pay insurance for both cars. I want to drive the 2010 for spring, summer and fall and my 96 for Winter.
Thank you,
Chris

HAHAHA I get that you care about your car and all that but don't worry i do too. Your car wont probably rust just for driving in the rain . You will be fine just drive it in the rain and enjoy it . I had my corolla for about a year now and i don't think it will be rusting anytime soon . I try to avoid driving in the rain too just because i like to keep my car clean but when you have to drive it you have to drive it right ? In other words the car will be fine .
well id say wiping it down everytime it gets wet might be a bit much.remember, water does not cause rust oxygen does. the big thing that oxidizes the cars metal is salt. since your not winter driving that wont be an issue. just keep it clean and keep stone chips under control. waxing a couple times a year will keep it sparkling. also a good old oil spray undercar keeps them rust free. hopefully this helps
and also when you wipe down the car...even if you use a micro fiber towel or anything made for a car....you will put swirl marks in the paint as you drag the surface dirt...if you look at the paint at certain angles under florescent light...you can see microscopic scratches(will add up and looks really bad)
the dealer washed my car and its really bad now..as to before I barely had any now I need to buff the dang paint
oh and dont worry about the rain....if anything goes wrong you have that rust warranty or whatever
If you worry about your car rusting, get a yearly rustproofing application from Krown before the snow hits and the city starts salting the roads.
I was thinking of going to Krown, but I heard that they drill holes in the ccar or some sort like that .... so i was thinking of waiting after my warrenty finsh .... I don't want to void my warrenty .
Buy I am not sure 100% on that, is it true thye drill holes into the car?

They do drill holes.
It's essentially a non-issue because it allows for their rust proofing oil to creep, soak in and reach the problem areas that are prone to rusting on cars. Just the nature of the process.
It has no effect on the factory warranty. The earlier you do it the better.
It's a good investment if you plan to hang onto your car for a long time. I had mine done starting last year.

I dont know how good wiping you car from rain is.. You could have tiny rocks on your paint and when you wipe with a cloth it will scratch..
+1
And then there is always the issue of not being able to get every single droplet of water off the car. A lot of the time rust starts from the inside out, at places you can't reach.
If you live in the rust belt, then rustproofing treatment is a must.
