USA New Owner Question...

Hello All,

I am a new owner of an 09 corolla (standard) that I bough from my brother. I used to have a 96 celica that just recently died (hit 225,000 miles).

I just had two questions for everyone out there in Toyota Nation.

1) Since my car is at 45,000 miles now (i do about 120 miles of highway commuting for work), I am no longer covered under warranty for that "steering drift" TSB, so to help improve my highway stability i was going to order TRD springs, FSB, and the RSB. To anyone who may have installed these, have you noticed an improvement when driving on the highway?

2) This is just the base corolla, boring i know, but I was hoping to add trac and VSC to it. Does anyone know if this is possible? I have heard of people installing cruse control, so im hoping its may be a similar procedure.

thanks again in advance! I am looking forward to sprucing up my new corolla!

Those items will improve the vehicle's handling...

I am not sure if it is possible to install VSC. However, I hate having it.

Adding stability electronics would probably require more parts and expense than anybody would be willing to endure. The system is everywhere.

If you commute every day. you might want to reconsider installing drop springs. The road noise and ride will suffer... Not a biggie for those who use their cars for short trips, but over time it might be really annoying. Good tires and shocks will give you a huge improvement.

The TRD springs are not much of a drop. I prefer my car with them. I have had them on my 2009 for more than 185,000 miles... Nothing has "suffered" because of them.

Lots of people do. I've been in several TRD spring equipped Toyotas that we did. They do stiffen up the ride a bit. Some people are not upset by that at all. Some people hate it. Just putting what I know out there so the OP can make an educated decision.

I didn't notice anything negative as far as ride quality after installing my TRD springs on my 09 Corolla. The handling was much improved my the ride quality was similar to stock. I went on a 4000 mile trip this summer in 9 days & the ride was wonderful on the flats while cruising & the handling was excellent in the twisties.

The the OP. I added TRD springs, TRD USB, & TRD RSB along with larger & wider tires & the difference in handling and steering was night & day. I have 225/45R17 tires now.

I too have the TRD Springs and cannot say I have 1 complaint about them. Wife has yet to complain with them and new wheels at all either about ride quality (or at least she hasn't said anything, lol)

lol, yeah. I had to throw that line in there as a reserve... I might hear about it in 4-5 years, so I wanted to be sure to leave myself open to mod that post down the road when she finally blows up.
