CEL: O2 Sensors

Well at right around 70,000 today I got my first check engine light.

I took it over to autozone and they pulled the codes, all relating to the upstream oxygen sensors. They don't carry them so I dug around online. Its looks like there is a left and right (threw codes for both) and together they run about $310.

This seems a bit on the high side. Since it threw codes for both, am I safe to assume both upstreams are bad? While it does seem a little early for a 2.5 year old car, I guess it would explain the 3-4MPG loss in the past month. This is not a maintenance I have ever completed myself, but it looks fairly straightforward looking at materials from previous gens.

Any info on the subject would be great.

If your o2 sensor are bad they are covered under your emissions warranty. Read yor emissions warranty to be sure..

My understanding is that they are considered a consumable good and not covered under the warranty.

Curious. I am ~12K miles behind you.

Do you have any intake or exhaust mods? Also, what kind of oil did you use? I would do a bit of experimenting, see if both are actually bad.

It may be the o2 sensor are only warrantied longer in California and Canada. Again, it should be listed in your warranty book. Also the code for your upstream o2 sensor could be a dirty MAF. You could clean your MAF, clear the codes then see if you get the codes to come back.

I change out the OEM filter with 5w-20 mobil 1 synthetic every 4500-5000 miles. The only intake mod is the TRD air filter, which I will soon be replacing with the OEM filter.

However, I just got back from a friend who pulled some information off of alldatapro for me. We reset the ECU and it threw the codes are P2195( Oxygen sensor stuck lean) and P0504 (Brake Swith A/B Correlation). There seems to be a TSB for P2195 that handles this directly, stating that parts and labor are covered under the emissions warranty.

Its T-SB-0065-10. Anyone have any additional information about this TSB? I am going to schedule an appointment at the closest dealer next week to see what they have to say.

Both codes appear to be unrelated.. It might be worthwhile to check the fuse for the ECM. U havent washed or wet under the hood recently?
