Anyone know what bolt to undo and to use to refill the tranny? i have the 1.8 manual transmission and i will be using 5w20 oil
I'm getting ready to change my gear oil too in my 1.8 5-speed but don't use 5W-20 for your manual transmission. I just bought some Redline MT-90 that has the synchro & gear protection that 5W-20 oil doesn't.

It takes 75w90. If you put such a lightweight oil in there that tranny will be dead in a matter of minutes.
Here is a thread that goes over it on a 9th gen, should be almost the same I would think as this is not something that changes much between different vehicles.
Jim do you have time Wednesday or Thursday to do it. I am off both days. If not maybe the next week
Dude, gear oil is easier to change than oil. You literally drop the drain bolt, let it drain, put the bolt in, fill it up. There is no need for a full write up to know how. Wear gloves and keep your garage door open because it smells terrible.
I posted a thread in the post above though if you really need it.

One addition point is that most Toyota trannies have a fill plug on the top too. I've always done it that way on my MR2 as it's easier to fill with a standard funnel. You still have to take off the side filler bolt so that you know when the tranny is full. I'll check when I do mine & post pics too.

I ran the Royal Purple Syncromax in my WRX for a bit. Started grinding gears after about 1k miles. Be careful using it, and if you notice grinding get it out of there. I don't know what type of tranny the Corolla 5mt is, but the Subaru 5mt/6mt is a splash style (oil in the bottom of the pan, "splashes" into the gears/syncros) and it was to slippery to lubricate adequately,
