my 2009 corolla LE has a problem with fuel consumption, just few days ago i fill the tank with 45 liter=11.88 gallon and i drove like 200 mile in city and the tank is empty again. what could be the problem?
Are you going up many hills?
do you have the AC on (even though I've found the corolla AC to be pretty efficient, there is still a hit on fuel economy)?
how much stop and go?
i dont have ac one we are in winter + no hills but the fuel available here is 85 only we do not have 95 does it mean somthing
i only have 28000 mile only

Do you drive with defrost on?
Do you have your car idling before you drive away for any period of time?
I only use 87 octane (that is what is recommended in the manual).
It is really difficult to get an idea of what you problem could be without more details. What was your average fuel consumption prior to this issue? Was the last fill-up the first you noticed of the increased consumption?
If I recall correctly the min octane we are supposed to run in these engines is 87. There has already been a post on here about fouled O2 sensors, you might want to take a look at that. I would look into spark plugs, fuel injector cleaning would be next.

I had the same problem turns out my fuel hoses were loose and i was loosing gas. I made a 200mile trip to san antonio texas and i got stranded on the way back. Hoses came off and dumped all my gas. I was stranded for 6 hours. Not fucken cool. Go get it checked. Toyota was kind enough to pay for my tow truck, repairs and gave me a full tank of gas. My dealership is great.

Talking about AC and winter. The moment you're in defrost postion, the AC is automatically ON although the light is off. In the summer time, try puting the lever to cold and in defrost position, with AC off, and you'll get cold AC air, simply because you're in defrost position.
As for your low miles per gallon, in winter gas doesn't burn as well, the wheels don't rotate as easily and there is resistance on the ground because of ice or snow. And if you warm up your car 15 minutes before leaving, that takes gas.
And you could have some other problem.

Does you car not have a trip/fuel economy computer? Hit the little button and toggle to "ave" readout. Hold it to reset and try again.... The Corolla computer will do all the calculations for you and does seems to be quite accurate and reliable as is the speedo and odo (compared to my garmin) on all Toyota's.
You will ALWAYS get a much lower fuel economy calculation with only one tank. Unless you know exactly how much is in your tank (ie. do you fill till overflowing or a little less?) and you run till completely empty.
But you can do your calculations over 10+ or so tankfuls and it will slowly become more accurate but then you must record TOTAL gas and total miles up that point.....
You will find fuel mileage does improve noticeably with break in but not drastically. Usually continues to improve slightly up to 7-8,000 miles on Toyota's.
