Hey, I drove a 2003 Honda Civic. Bought it brand new back then, and it had only 115 hp. It was a 1.7 liter motor. People would say, wow, that's a nice sport car, and it must go fast.....
It didn't drive any better. The only thing I prefered was the view. It's hard to beat the view in a Honda. The windshield goes very low and you see everything ahead. The suspension was a little harder. A bit more space for the legs in the back, but I didn't find the car more fun...
I'll upload a picture of that car and the car I have now. I find that my Corolla looks better although it was a nice car.
Just because a Corolla is cheap on gas and never breaks does not make it a fun car to drive. It gets you from point A to point B.
My definition of a fun car to drive is one that has massive amounts of horsepower and torque....meaning 400+ for both... (Corvette, Camaro, Mustang....) and has great handling. The Corolla can be modified to have good handling for fairly cheap...but the power ratings will take some serious cash to get and even then you cannot get to the same level as other cars in a reliable way.

Yeah, but the Civic had less horsepower than the corolla at that time, and was still considered a car that could go fast...so a fun car...
Everyone has their own views. Civics, Corolla's, Focus, Cobalt, Golf....all are small econo cars that get from point A to point B with not a lot of gas and are fairly reliable.
Maybe since I grew up in Detroit I'm biased.....400+ HP cars are the normal weekend fun cars that I'm used to.
Once I buy a house...hopefully this year...you can be sure there will be a fun weekend car taking up one of the garage spots.
anyways... i think its just the stereotype. when people see/hear corolla, they just imagine something that others have implanted in their heads.
like whenever someone tells me they drive a civic... im a little bit stereotypical and automatically think of this if i havent seen their car....
same here...but no one says mine is slow. Everybody down here seem to treat civic's, corolla's, cobalts, etc all the same...they are well respected unless you are the douche in a overly lifted truck and dont go off roading and is cleaner of mud than the car is..
my friend drove my car and loved it over his civic...to be fair it is a 91 civic but still he loves my car and didnt really realize that my car actually has some power for what it is.
I just wish it would have some more power like as compared to some others and one or two more gears to make it a 5 or 6 spd auto....and maybe one more with the manual...the power can be added slowly. If not then its still has plenty to still have some sort of fun in it

And many say that the Mazda 3 is more fun to drive.... OK, is it because it has a few more HP? I think that people automatically say Toyota is for older people, and think old people are dull....lol
I remember a cop saying that Civic drivers are their clients, meaning they give way more speeding tickets to Civics than any other car around here. Take the same Civic driver and put him in a Corolla with equal HP. Will he become more civilized because he is driving a Corolla or drive just as fast because it has equal power.
I think that the make of the car has lots to do with the way they drive. They seem to be thinking, I have a Civic so I'll drive fast, or I have a Corolla, I'll drive like an old person....
Everyone thinks "grandma car" because older peple tend to get this car as said above, for reliability and gas milage. 9 of 10 corollas i see on the road are older people. I say we change it. I've had a few people randomly on the street do a double-take when i say it is a corolla.
Exhaust, Pivot, Intake, Springs/Coils, Tint and some bars. That'll make it "fun"

Overall I think our four bangers are more fun for everyday driving. I have heard before that "It is more fun to drive a slow car fast then a fast car slow."
I have people look at my car all the time and I dont even have rims, drop, or any real exterior mod...I actually had a guy in a TC with a nice aftermarket front bumper and rims look at my car today for example
I need to balance my mods of cosmetics and performance...my friend with his honda is making fun of me (messing around really) but my performance mods is so much more expensive than his, but his car has been around for over 20 yrs (91 civic) so there is plenty of crap out there which makes sense and ours are new so it doesnt really bother me
Our cars are fun to drive with neccesary mods. Flawed has it right with what he said. Once you get some bars on this car and springs its nice. And they are sporty looking specially the S and XRS with drop, tint, and wheels. A Mazda 3 is a more fun care to drive stock then our car and especially a speed3 or like a civic si. But either way there all eco cars and to have any fun they need a little bit of money into them.
I LOVE driving my corolla. Its not fast but its quick and nimble for the most part and sounds good
I have been all around my metro area and have not seen a single corolla with springs or tint, and there are almost too many corollas in my area. I have alot of fun driving my car for what it is. I dont go around revving my engine at every other car out there cuz I know what it can and cant do. It looks better than most cars out there anyway. If you bought the car only for economy and reliability thats fine. I got mine cuz its cheap and looks great. Its only as fun as you want it to be.
