Question New to TN, New Car, New Mods :)

Hi guys!
I'm new to the forum, and just got my very first car the 2010 Toyota Corolla S in Silver

So first thing i did was the partial CAI mod (after reading it on this forum) and tint. Now I want to scratch the mod itch again.

I jumped the gun on this Ultra Racing 2 Point Rear Strut.
http://www.nextgentuning.com/Ultra_R...duct--454.html
I actually wanted the rear sway bar but in my noobieness got this from throwdown performance!

Now I'm curious will do similar thing as the sway bar or make barely and difference?
I wanted to get the bar/sway, it lowered, and a new muffler!

I have searched the forum extensively, i know I want it a bit lower than the TRD and a little bit louder than the Borla Prosx muffler. However I dont know what to do?! I dont want ricer so i looked at the OBX muffler that ClintJ has!

But I drove my parents Mercedes Benz C350 today for the first time in a few months and HOT DAMN that car has barely any sway(and JEEZ the power)! I want something close to this without getting an insane 6 piece kit under my car and spending ridiculous amounts in mods either.

Want to spend less than 400$ on mods for this car..
So far 130$ish on the UR bar, can I get some suggestions please! Also sorry for the long thread!

Do the borla muffler and use a piece of steel to tack the exhaust to the frame rail. It resonates better and keeps the tone. I had it both ways and sounds much better after doing that. Do springs for sure and bars are a must. Look at what supercharged has for a setup for handling. Im working towards that but well see

to TN!

Jim (aka Supercharged MR2) is where you want to look for handling. TRD Springs and every bar possible.
I would get some springs next as they will help the ride and appearance. Your $400 budget will not get you much if you are looking at these bigger mods, so save up and get them over time, as many of us are doing.

Just make sure to "do your homework" and read up on your next potential mod and make sure that is the next one you want and just slowly work down the list.

My 2c... TRD Springs from TRD Sparks then a muffler (Borla/MagnaFlow are the main two on here it seems) and you should be right at your $400

Thanks for the welcome guys!

But what i'm wanting is something a little more "ballsy" than the borla but not as raspy as the magnaflow.(This is why I'm looking at the OBX) I was wondering if anyone has experience with the "Different Trends" muffler as one of the local muffler shops suggested it!

Regarding the Springs, I want it to be a tad bit lower than the TRD springs but not scrape or have to worry so much, can anyone give any suggestions maybe the TIEN springs?

I will totally get on that Sway bar though! Seems like throwdown performance hasnt even contacted me about the shipping yet :/ hopefully its not a scam site!!

Can i get a overall price for what you guys paid for muffler/install? Seems like usual around here is around 200$ for install and muffler!!

Theres a million different mufflers out there. You're best bet would probably me to go to a muffler shop and ask them. But they make a lot of money off mark up, so I suggest you take their 2 cents and go grab one offline. My exhaust may be up your alley, but the video I have up makes it sound like rice. However, in reality it sounds a lot lower, almost like an Evo. Ill see if I can get a new video, because I know you will just laugh at the one I have. Trust me, it sounds very different warmed up in person.

RJ just watched your video, absolutely hilarious ending!

But does it have a nice rumble when its idling? I can see how it would sound really ricy in the vid especially with video and such.. Could i get a model number for it and how much you paid for the exhaust alone??

EDIT: Would love to hear a different video, at the moment the OBX exhaust is looking really good at a lean easy price of 60ish dollars shipped. However if that Spintech sounds that much better i might just have to get it

It sounds a lot like it does in the video, minus the rasp. A really nice, low sound. Like I said I will try and get you a new video.

As for the part number and price... I can look it up and try and find you the exact one. It cost me nothing. My dad owns a shop and does exhaust. I just went there, pulled it off the shelf, and put it on. But I know its not too expensive, as its not all stainless and prettied up like the borla and magnaflow. Nothing a little bit of rustproof enamel cant fix. Who looks underneath the car anyway?

Let me do some research and see if I can get you something.

Would you say its lower than the OBX, or close to it? Dang lucky duck, I'd love to just grab any muffler and try it out on my rolla!

of course it can be cheaper...like tonight I got my borla installed and it cost me $89 + $14 for shipping for the borla and install was for free as my friend did it. the only step left is the tip which ranges from $40-70 depending on brand/quality/etc.

ask your friends...they might be able to do it

Given that the muffler is the same size inlet as the stock, and the muffler Is the same length, Its actually really simple. The only tricky part to a full system is bending the pipe, which is also easy enough to do yourself, as long as you have the 10 grand for a pipe bender . Seriously though, tools are expensive.
What I was getting at was if you have access to a welder, even an amateur could put it on. It doesn't have to be too pretty as theres not alot of stress on it. Get a couple brackets from autozone. Even a tip from autozone. Personally I changed the piping from the resonator back, but that was because of easy access to tools an material. If You are on a budget, you do not need to be picky about who puts it on.

Definitely understand i dont need to be super picky, but lets not get too off topic!!

OBX vs Spintech? What do you guys think?

OBX i know i can get for 60ish/Spin no clue
Kinda enjoy the OBX's deep growl but dunno if it'd be too loud/have drone..

(note, dont know how to weld/dont have freinds that would do it...) 75$install seems usual, will shop around though

Every bar that you add you will love the improvement & want to achieve more. My Corolla handles so well & sounds so good with my Borla & Takeda SRI that I just love driving it.

just the TRD springs makes a ride difference. I can't wait to add some bars! Then I'll get an intake to go with my MagnaFlow. All that with the Pivot = wet dream

thing is, I want to go a little lower than the TRD springs! Seems like Eibach is the way to go.

Second question, i hear that if you go to big at the tip you loose torque?(I have an auto )
So if i was to go the OBX then i would loose torque!?
