Yes.

The proper procedure is stated in your owners manual.

Because all the dealer cares about is selling you the car. They could care less what you do with it once they have your money.

Popper break in is don't abuse it for the next 2k miles and change your oil when stated, used to be 3k miles but it could be like 5k or more with the new synthetic Toyota use. highway miles are ok since your always constant and a bit easier on the engine as long as it not grid lock commuting. to sum it up. dont over rev your car or try to burn rubber like you have a v8 under the hood have fun.

you are suppose to drive it carefully but dont baby it too much....not good..new cars break in periods are really different now especially when these engine are more well made than before. I wouldn't redline for awhile unless absolutely necessary and slowly rev higher and higher as the miles go up. For now I wouldn't go past 4k rpm maybe 3k then little by little as you go. and dont forget to change the oil after about 2k maybe sooner

I don't see anything in the manual about breaking it in. Does anyone else have a 2010 manual that can check and see?

I found oil type, amount etc but nothing about when to change it but it says a maint reqd light will comes on at 4,500 to change the oil. The dealer said bring it back in at 5,000 it says to use SAE 5W-20 or 0W-20 says nothing about synthetic oil.

There are a couple revisions (especially for 2009), but I believe the following should be correct:

"Driving Procedures: Breaking in your new Toyota"

2009: Page 114
2010: Page 118
2011: Page 120

Breaking in your new Toyota

To extend the life of the vehicle, the following precautions are recommended
to observe:

For the first 200 miles (300 km):
- Avoid sudden stops.

For the first 500 miles (800 km):
- Do not tow a trailer.

For the first 1000 miles (1600 km):
- Do not drive at extremely high speeds.
- Avoid sudden acceleration.
- Do not drive slowly with the manual transmission in a high gear.
- Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.

Jeff
