Comments please. I am trying to assist my daughter with buying a 2010 or 2011 Corolla S. My head is spinning after reading for three hours about Corolla steering (wandering/drifting) and alignment issues.
1. In an effort to minimize steering nightmares, if we consider a 2010, is there a build date range that we should avoid?
2. Does this potential problem disappear for 2011 cars?
3. Any general advice that would minimize my concern?
i can tell you that putting in a Front Strut Brace and a Rear Sway bar would help this alot. i have a FSB a RSB a Upper Rear Strut Brace and TRD lowering Springs and my car feels so solid. i can let go of my wheel and my car will go straight for a long long time. When its windy it doesnt phase the car at all and over all it just feels extremely solid and handles very well.
My 09 S drove just fine when new & stock. As I improved the suspension with TRD springs, FSB & RSB the tracking & handling only got better. When all these issues started to come up about the steering I went out & tested mine & it tracked perfectly straight when I took my hands off the steering wheel. I've driven several 09/10 Corollas & I've never experienced what some people were dealing with.
I would say just test drive the car no matter what year it is, either the 2010 or 2011. If it tracks straight & true I would say you were good to go. It seemed very sporadic anyway as many of us never had any problem.

It was a decently windy day here in Denver. I was driving today at ~ 65-70 mph on the freeway and I felt like I was getting pushed around like I had a small sail on top of my 2010 Corolla.
I'll start researching the "FSB a RSB a Upper Rear Strut Brace and TRD lowering Springs" you mentioned. I probably won't be able to purchase everything in one shot so is there a particular order that you, or anyone else, would suggest upgrading these in? Does that make sense? Thanks in advance. Like I said, I'll start researching this myself too.
The Corolla has new steering - it is EPS rack and pinion. The car feels solid and ride is comfortable.
If you are in the market for new Corolla, it is worth it to buy the 2011 model because there are lots of upgrades...

Get TRD lowering springs first followed by the RSB/FSB combination.

I also noticed that some things are not available though on the 2011 model like the power port in the center console & the JBL package is gone too which I love!

Thank you. I just pulled prices off of the dealership site and those 3 items really aren't that expensive at all. Especially if I'm doing all the work myself so that's encouraging. Plus I'll shop around to make sure I'm getting the best deal I can.
On the Toyota website it says the TRD springs lower the vehicle .5" in front and 1.5" in back. Searching around this seems to be decently accurate. Anybody experience anything otherwise? Thanks again.

My drop was closer to .75" in front & 1.75" in the rear.
