Hit a pot hole, question about shocks (car is still okay, hopefully)

Hi,

Driving home from a friends house from up north and the driving on the "smaller" highways [55 mph or 90km/h] to the major highways. The road [both direction] was a wide single lane each going and there was very darkish low light area.

As I did not notice a pot hole until the very last minute because the wet looking dark road blend in with the hole .... I ran over it at 55 mph [90 km/h] with the right 2 wheels.

I felt a very big thump and i slowed down and pulled over and checked with a flash light I had in the car. The tire and everything looks fine so i continued home. While driving home I didn't feel anything weird the the steering, and went into a plaza to go over a few speed bumps to try it out and it felt fine and there was no pulling to the right or anything.

So I was wondering will i have any sort or problems I should be worrying about with my shocks [right front and rear]?

thanks,
Chris

if it drives good, there shouldn't be anything to worry about. Just double check the suspension parts in the day to see if anything is damaged or bend, I doubt that since it drives good..

Pot holes will usually damage a tire and/or dent a wheel before any harm to the suspension, shocks or struts. If the steering wheel position wasn't changed and the car isn't pulling or has wheel vibrations, the car is unlikely to be harmed. Look at both the outside and back side of the wheels and tires, looking for bulges in the tires or dents in the wheels. One saving grace on these Corrolas is light weight combined with usually generous tire sidewall height reduces pothole damage compared to heavier cars with low profile tires so popular these days.

Your speed proably lessened the effect of hte pothole.

I hate this weather...it's just destroying the roads this year. Had to close the entire north end of the 427 last week for emergency road repairs. Makes me wonder how bad that was to close a 400-series highway.... :ugh:

Keep an eye on the tire over the next few days.

If a bubble forms, then it's time to replace the tire.
