"NEW" 2010 Corolla owner

Hello

I just purchased a 2010 Toyota Corolla S yesterday. It's got a black exterior and of course the black interior that comes with the S model. Ideally I would've have got a FJ but $$$ doesn't currently allow that. Someday . . . . . or maybe it'll be a Tacoma. Time will tell. Either way, this little Corolla will stay with me as a dependable (hopefully) commuter.

I don't really plan on doing too much modding to it although there are a few things I have in mind. I'd like to disable the DRL and wouldn't mind getting rid of the seatbelt chime. No flaming necessary, I wear my seat belt. As far as purchase items I'm planning on getting a clear bra, tint job, and WeatherTech floor mats. I may get the side moldings but haven't decided yet. Depends on the $$$. I'm very interested in a good iPod set up. All ears and suggestions are more than welcome.

Any Corolla owners out there have any suggestions or comments for me? I look forward to learning from you all.

Thanks!!

Steve

I moved your thread here to the Corolla section from the intro section. These guys can better answer your questions and give you the advice you're looking for.
Welcome to the forum.

to TN Steve. What part of Colorado are you from? I spent many years there in different cities back in the 80's. Look around at different topics in the threads & you will get a lot of different ideas for your Corolla.

As far as the Ipod goes, whether or not you want to replace the stock radio will depend on how your answers goes. I currently have Alpine headunits with the high speed USB in both my Camry and Sienna. I really like the interface on the Alpine radios. I wish I had gotten the clear bra on my current cars as all the highway miles have really hurt the paint on the front end. Good luck with your Corolla!

Thanks guys. I haven't had a lot of time to utilize the search tool on here but I'll get on it. I'll check out that DRL thread sooner than later. I currently reside in Lakewood but would like to move down to Parker once my girl gets out here.

Other than the items that will "preserve" my vehicle I'll be pumping all extra $$$ to the principal of the loan. You know how it goes. That being said . . . . . I'll be keeping the stock radio for now. I bought a cheapo iPod car charger that has an extra USB port so I could at least keep my phone and iPod cables in the same place. I guess I'd like to get a mount that placess the iPod up higher on the dash and can double as a charger. I know they make them. I just haven't researched which one is ideal for the Corolla.

A pic.

Nice pic. Do get the Clear Bra, I did & I'm very happy that I spent the money on it.

Didn't you get 0% interest? This is the first time that I haven't paid off a car early since I can leave my money in my bank earning 3% while I pay 0% interest.

Oh hell no. They were offereing .9% on all 2010 Corollas except for the S model. I ended up just over 5% which is rediculous since my credit score is considered excellent. The non S models have that really light color interior that didn't work for me so I went this route. I'll save up a bit and then go refinance with a credit union or something. A friend tells me that a lot of CU's up here are beating existing auto loan APRs by 1% or more. It's done and done at this point so I just have to be goal oriented when it comes to this loan and try to minimize the interest paid. No biggie.

If you pay off extra principle you will pay a lot less of an actual interest rate. I paid my 48 month loan off on my 07 Matrix in only 14 months & saved a boatload of money.

My brother lived in Parker for many years until he was transferred to Atlanta 2 years ago. Him & his wife hated to leave & sell their home. I went to college in Durango & lived in Pueblo & Colorado Springs for a while too.

If you are keeping the stock headunit then the factory ipod connection is decent, not grat but workable. Shop around, you can get it a lot cheaper than the $300 that the dealer wants. Check out Crutchfield.

It sucks the interest rate changed, I bought my 2010 S in November and got the 0% deal. Honestly, no matter what the interest rate is you bought a great car so don't be too unhappy with 5% as that is about industry average.

This is what i got if you want to keep your deck stock.
it plugs right into the back and you can have you ipod hidden away in your glove compartment

this device also allows you to use your steering wheel controls to change songs/playlists
