So I was driving to school today, waiting for a red light to change... when the person driving behind me failed to notice it wasn't green and drove into my corolla at approx 35mph. Just my luck Surprisingly these cars hold up well...I'm thankful that I walked away with only a neck sprain, lumbar sprain and a broken heart. (figuratively speaking of course)
Just wondering if anyone knows how much damage would cause them to total it. As much as I hate knowing this will be on my carfax, i'm hoping it's deemed fixable to avoid the time and aggravation i'd face otherwise.... not to mention the time/parts I've put into it. The rear bumper needs to be replaced, my exhaust got shoved up into the bumper and the "tip" that the S comes with is just MIA... it makes a ticking noise but the car runs normally, my check engine light came one, no airbags deployed... the trunks a little misaligned & theres a small dent from the impact on my rear quarter panel which I imagine is going to be a pain to fix since that part of the car goes from back to front Here's a pic from right after... :'(

Glad that your alright, everything should be covered since its the other driver's fault.
Airbags shouldn't have gone off if I'm not mistaken. I don't think theres a sensor there, they didn't go off when I was hit in the rear also. Hopefully your tail lights didn't get damaged, and I don't think it'd be filed as totaled.
Definitely keep us posted

But I'm wondering if since your exhaust pipe was hit and you check engine light came on...if something is wrong with your exhaust system in the front end now?

I'm wondering the same, hopefully will know within a week... had the car towed to prevent more damage even though it was running and the police officer who came to the scene insisted I drive it home Hopefully you're all correct and it's not totaled and thank you to everyone for their responses!

The ballpark estimate they gave me was $5,000. The other guys insurance company didnt send anyone to do an estimate yet and its been over 2 weeks, I thought they were supposed to do that within 48 hours but I did call the shop it's being fixed at to get a rough estimate to use on my state accident report... I just want it back and they haven't been able to touch it until the insurance adjuster comes out.... so annoying.
