Alright, so as I was on my way home today a buddy of mine on his way to work was checking his phone instead of watching the road, and as a driver in the front of the huge line of cars compiled from a dump-truck stopped short, the entire line had to slam the breaks.
Luckily, I saw my pal coming towards me in the rear-view and tried to haul-ass towards the shoulder, but seeing as my car was still traveling around 30-40mph I wouldn't let my tires fall off the pavement for fear of my braking causing them to lose grip and send me skidding off into the ditch. I did pull over enough to minimize damages, so no airbags deployed, but my rear-end has to be rebuilt pretty much.
I'm scared to post images here for fear of insurance companies doing some invasive research, I will say that everything from my trunk-over on the driver's side is toast. We had to cut off the lip kit on the rear-bumper because it curled up into the wheel well...
I won't have the car back for at least a month, and I'm not wanting to claim through our insurance as USAA uses aftermarket replacement parts, where-as the other party's insurance uses used or new parts.
One thing I would like to see is some reimbursement for my resale value that just plummeted through the floor. Any ideas on how to do this? Like I said, the guy who hit me is a friend, thus I don't want to break him - but if I can get money out of his insurance I'll sure as hell do it.
As for injuries I haven't felt anything yet besides a sore knee which hit the dashboard at some point. Unless I start having back pains soon I'm just going to presume everything's fine. I remember almost everything from the crash, minus the two or three seconds where I closed my eyes and just thought "Really? Frickin' hurray...."
Anyway, yeah, guidance would be really nice right now. Should I wait for State Farm to fix the car on their budget (with used parts) or should I allow USAA to fix it with Aftermarket parts? Also, if I can get a new intake and exhaust out of this I'd be really happy.
And if you guys think it'd be better, I do have a good bunch of photos - as well as a video - that I can upload. Thanks for the help...
--EDIT--
I will say the repairs are well over 5k. Don't know about frame damage but I wouldn't presume so. The metal behind the rear bumper got effed up, but I believe that's about it.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I hope that everyone was okay. You can request/demand new Toyota parts for your car from any insurance company. I've done it before & I have USAA also.

State Farm adjuster came in at 5260, good because the body shop quoted 5200. We didn't bother contacting USAA (our insurance company, as I believe I stated) because, well, there's really no reason to.
I'm still hoping diminished value will come into play by someone without me having to ask. Nonetheless, here's pictures and a video - really no reason to not post them up by now. =P
(Road-Ready via zipties!)
I'm uploading the video to Youtube now, will update later.

I am sure there are more hidden damages, hopefully nothing to the frame. By looking at the pictures, $5XXX sounds too cheap for all the repair. Wait til the body shop took it apart and you will find out.
Stop bringing up the TN curse that doesn't exist & maybe these accidents will stop happening.

Easy, our Corollas look so damn good people just can't wait to see close-ups of them!
And thanks stone, I think I may sneak over to the body shop this week sometime to check in and find if they've seen any more damage. Plus I'd like the windshield mount for my Droid back before it gets nicked haha.

Makes sense
I actually got slammed a couple months ago. Girl pulled out of a parking lot without looking. I swerved and almost avoided her but she caught the right rear quarter panel/wheel.
Women drivers, no survivors

Btw, when I say sideskirt, I mean rear-lip. And when I rub dirt off the un-damaged part of the car, I'm saying "the good news is I wanted this re-painted since the colors don't match."
But check out how the trunk bent in. =O
