hey everyone! im a new 2010 corolla s owner (well since last july..) but i love the forum here! done tons of DIY thanks to everyone else who contributed.
but anyways, i just found this out but, when you crank your car, i used to turn, then hold it for a sec till it catches on and let go when it runs, but seems like you can crank and release immediately and car will still fully turn on! i know older cars (used to have 97 prelude) if you let go too early, it just doesnt turn the engine all the way..
or is this new found method already out into the world and im just slow? haha
Never knew if it did that for the AT Corolla's, but it doesn't for the MT.
I wouldn't be surprised if it did, my Dads 2003 Stepside Tundra has that feature too.
It works on my MT.
And to the OP, this was brought up a a while ago but unless you read every thread it would be missed.

I found out about it by accident when my fingers slipped off the key just after turning it.

IIRC there was a thread about this and confirmed by Jeff. In our 10 gen, the ECU will continue cranking until engine starts.
I have smart key. All I have to do is press brake and press start button once and car will continue cranking until it starts. Same with key starts.
I knew about this even before I bought the car lol and it doesnt work on the 2.4( I tried on my friends MGM XRS)
and its perfectly fine to do it all the time. That's what I do on the daily basis and thats what we do in our 03' 4runner as it too has that feature(plus anti grind) << so if the car is already on...if you try to start it again, it would make that horrible noise that makes you cringe
MT here too. I found out by stalling it and immediately trying to restart it. I already kind of knew about it, but when the engine is cold it sometimes doesn't fire right away if I stall it. I've had it crank 5 or 10 seconds without my hand on the key before firing after a cold stall. I wonder how long it would crank before giving up.
