Parents Don't understand -.-

So while i was sleeping my mom decided to leave her perfectly fine relatively new bmw in the drive way and drive my car to run some arrands, when she noticed I didn't have gas she went to the station and "accidently" put 3 gallons of premium and then mixed it with regular. As a result since then instead of getting my already crappy 230-260 miles to the tank im getting less than 200..any ideas of how i can get my mpg back up?? (p.s. already went through the garbage tank of gass, im on my second since the little incident -.-)

I think it's YOU who doesn't understand this one.

Adding premium fuel will have exactly zero effect on your mileage. If it changed, something else is wrong. Premium fuel won't enhance your performance or mileage - but it won't hurt it either.

Premium fuel is just designed to burn a bit slower for higher compression engines to prevent detonation. Otherwise, it's the same stuff you normally buy.

yeah
i think it would have been bad if it were the other way around

like if you had a car that needed premium fuel, and filled it with regular fuel...
but even that wouldnt be SUPER bad

Actually the premium fuel would save more gas then the regular. Mines went up by 20ish when i changed it from regular to premium

There only reason why I would see this happening is if the gas station had almost no premium gas customers and water would have accumulated in the tanks. Also, the premium gas that was in stock could have been old winterblend which contains more additives and burns faster. In any other situation it shouldn't have changed for the worst. It should be back to normal with regular gas. You can always try to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for 5 mins. Also, that difference in MPG could be attributed to your driving habits.

I was half out of it one morning and filled up with premium... got right around the normal MPG for the tank.

I know what you mean ... about parents.

My dad borrows my car once in a while and couple months ago, I was out in the garage and I let my dad take my car and when he gets into the car, seatbelts .... he starts the car shifts and drive away [I always reverse park for an easy get out]

lol ... well I find it's better for the car when starting it's better to let it sit for 15 - 30 seconds before driving off so the oil circulates and have that "speedo sweep" finish before shifiting and go
