first off i will give alittle history on my car. i have a 2009 corolla S blue streak metallic, i know that means nothing but i like the color. i bought the car brand new and within 2500 miles when i came out of a hotel to make a roadrip with my wife i turned the key for it to start it cranked for a bit then shut down without starting. tried again and nothing!!! i couldnt even hear fuel pump or solenoid or anything after lookin at my dash i realize the entire dash was DEAD. i finally got it towed to a toyota dealership 3 miles down the road which cost me $90 which was reimbursed. they told me i had a few fuses blown. i know one of them was an EFI fuse cant remeber the other ones. well they gave me a handfull of fuses to last me all the way home incase it happened again and to get ahold of my dealership where i lived and have them look at it. when i got home i did just that. when they looked at it they said they had contacted toyota and they didnt have any issues like that happen. they ended up calling someone down from the NUMMI plant where it was built and have them look at it. they came down and told them to replace the engine ECU and they would take it and look at it. so they did and it was fine for a while. then about 30000 miles later the same thing happens so i take it to dealership once again and they replace the ECU once again!! then it was fine for a while again. later my job transfers me a couple hundred miles away and the same thing happens so i take it to the closest dealership and get the old service logs faxed to them. they decide they are goin to replace the charcoal canister and purge solenoid. which worked for a while now it is doin it again. needless to say i am a bit furious.
now for the details. the codes that are getting thrown every time are as follows p0171, p0441, and p0455.
before anyone says to check the gas and not to over fill, i never top off and alway tight cap till it clicks. this is getting to be a bit rediculous. i am in contact with a toyota case manager and also waitin on the dealership to see what they are gonna do. i actually had to pay out of my pocket for charcoal canister and purge last time and that was about $600.
any help or recommendations would be great. i think i am out of lemon law for my state since my 09 now how 88000 miles on it.
thats a lot of problems to have out of one car,and I think anyone could tell that the car wasnt built right. You could try talking to Toyota at the highest point of authority you can and if they wont help you out in some way you could try to talk to a lawyer, tell him you keep having extensive problems with the vehicle, have all records showing where they fixed this repaired that and see if there is any way legaly that can be done to get another vehicle. If not,get it running right sell it or trade it in somewhere because it sounds to me that car will never be right.sorry I couldnt be more help
That's a heck of a first post. Sorry to hear about your repeated issues. I would guess that it's not the ECU since the odds of that many being bad would be very slim. It's probably something else that they are messing with when they are working on the car. I'm wondering about something with the wiring harness.
I agree that the dealer should work for you in having Toyota replace the car or continue to repair it without cost to you.

after alot of research online and elsewhere i have found that on previous gen corollas it seemed like those 3 codes were thrown alot also or at least that is what my research showed up. and the order things were supposed to be taken care of were first change the ECU and write VIN to ECU. if problem persists then change canister which has also been done. i am not gonna slam toyota and say they make crap because i dont think they do i just think i happen to get a bad car. granted i do actually work at a toyota assembly plant on the assembly line i cant say too much. but i will try to keep information posted on how the issue goes.
If you work for Toyota, I know that most employees can lease vehicles...don't know if that applies to TMM associates. My aunt and uncle are employees and they've been leasing their cars for as long as I know, and never had to keep a car too long to deal with any issues.
couple of questions..are you refueling with the engine running? do you smell fuel under the hood or under the rear end? are you using a k&n filter?
no i do not refuel with car running, no smell under the hood and no i am not using an aftermarket filter such as a K&N. and like i said i always make sure i tighten cap until it clicks. never top off fuel. i figured if it were o2 sensors they would have replaced those at 2500 miles when it first broke down on me.
well i went and picked up the car today after they said that it was done and that toyota paid for it thinkin wow somethin must have really worked. only to be told when i got there that i have a service plus warranty that covered a whoppin 53 bucks. they also said the DTC's that were showing were p0171, p0301, p0441, and p0456. before i drove it there i went and got the codes checks at auto zone and it showed the 171 and the 441 but also a 455 and not a 301 or a 456. i was also told that there was a TSB and they recalibrated the ECM and drove it to see if the light came back on again which it didnt. however when i drove off the lot and stopped at the stop light the idle RPM's dropped down like it usually does and it starts idling like a desiel. i dont really know if that is normal or not but oh well tomorrow i will give my toyota case manager a call and let him know that i am not satisfied at all with the car. does anyone think i am in the wrong for feeling that way?

haas
Don't feel that it's your fault. I think you need to keep your case manager current so that they have a full history of repairs & what isn't working so that maybe they will replace it at some point.

Sorry to hear that man, but if that problem gets worse it's definitely not safe to drive. Sounds like you drive a lot, but like all others said, I beat the crap out of the Managers there to get it done. I just quit from a Toyota Dealership not too long ago, and sometimes if you don't turn the heat up, they won't do anything. If they are treating you badly, or not giving you a straight forward response, send a message to the owner of the dealership, as well as to a higher authority through Toyota, and a message on BBB if they will not fix it. That'll definitely get their attention. I sold cars, and when a customer came back to complain, our owners gave the managers all heat, and got it done for them like that. A phone call or too won't do anything, they just sit behind the phone and talk crap about it after you leave. That's just my experience though, could be diffferent.
well another update!!!! this is not my week to drive to work so my wife drives the car when she is goin somewhere. this morning when i woke up she asked if they cleared the check engine code and i told her yes. well she said it came on again so i guess i will be doin alot more talkin. thanks for all the help those everyone and like i said earlier. i will keep you posted.
