Question 2010 Corolla S Sound System Question

So I just recently got my '10 Corolla off the lot brand new, and I'm loving it. I got the XM receiver on ebay for 180 used (The guy's car got wrecked from hail) and it's working great. I recently just replaced the rear speakers, and I plan on changing the fronts as well (I was told by a few of my friends, and reading online, to do the speakers first). The rears made a big difference from the stock garbage they had in there.

Here comes my questions; After I get the speakers replaced, I'd like to put an amp in to get the system a bit louder. Can I use the stock HU with an amp? I read somewhere that I cannot use my stock XM setup with a third party HU; Is that true? I'd like to be able to use the XM rig that I have in the car if I have to replace the HU. Also, could a sub be used with the stock HU? Just kinda wondering about that. My big thing is, I'd like to be able to keep the XM rig if I had to replace the HU. But if I can use the stock HU I'd do that.

Thanks!
-Mike

If you replace the HU than it will be easier to wire in a sub since you can get a HU with a pre-amp output for a sub amp. The downside is that you won't be able to use the XM tuner as most now have them built in. You could always make sure though that a stereo store could adapt your stock unit with a new HU that doesn't have XM.

.....and welcome to TN!

Me being an fanatic -

The stock speakers are pretty decent, I've got just the sport package on mines without the JBL upgrade..I'm powering them with a Pioneer-3200BT Headunit and they are pretty damn loud. I would recommend going for a pre-amp output like Supercharged Says and get a decent woofer..

Make sure when you get the woofer consider this:

Quality Bass = Sealed Box
Hard Knocking Bass = Ported

And do NOT buy a pre-made box from online whether it's $20, or $50, spend $100 and the box will be the biggest difference you can hear and feel. My boy just made a custom box for an 8" woofer, and his almost hits as hard as my 12" Image Dynamics.

Also - if you are getting a woofer consider the Ohms and the amps

If you get a monoblock woofer, make sure it is Ohm Appropriate..

I.E. 4 Ohms can be wired down to 2 Ohms for one woofer
I.E. 2Ohms can be wired to 1Ohms

If you need help wiring, go to www.12volt.com
