343km [213mi.] for half tank good for the '10 corolla?
Hi,
With the gas price on the rise, I try to take an easy with driving the car and try to save fuel while driving efficiently.
Today, before filling up, I got 343km [213mi.] for half tank good on my '10 corolla, with 80% hwy, 20% city driving [I filled up full with 2 clicks]. I think our tank is 50 Liters [13.2 US Gal.]
Depends did you get 343km with the needle past full? or did you start counting once the needle hit the full line.. Its good mileage but then again you are doing mostly hwy..

when I filled up, it past the "F" line, i reset my Trip A to 0 at the time of fill up to count the km until my next fill up [today]
If I get 225 miles at the 1/2 tank line I know that I'm doing okay, 250 miles is very good & my best is 275 miles. But you don't have to ask us, just divide the distance you drove by how much fuel it took to fill the tank. Fill the tank the same way every time & you will get your mpg.

It's all going to boil down to what you can control such as your speed, gradual stops & starts, your commute (back roads vs straight highway) the fuel you use and the things you cannot control such as temperature and weather.
Those factors have definite impact on your miles per gallon. I'm a bit more fanatical about mileage and how I drive. I try to plan trips so that I don't have to veer to far off course to go where I have to and try and accomplish it in one trip.
I've been able to eke out 434 miles from a tankful using Chevron 87 octane. By half a tank, I usually have about 280 miles on the trip meter.
But my driving method is slow and steady...I have even elderly people passing me on the roads. But it pays off at the pump!

That's roughly 10l/100km or 28 MPG Imp, not great but how many KM's do you have on it?
Currently I have 14,339 km

oh yeah, I've been driving like an old person too lately ....... coming from a stop, I accelerate up to 2k rpm as much as possible when driving in the city
What does your distance meter tell you? Mine never goes above 550km estimated. I typically get around 525km (probably 60hwy/40city %) before needing to gas up, and put in around 37 litres.

Watda?!!! That's impressive!!
My distance is 460km with amber empty gas lit on a 42/43 litre fill up. 95.5% city.
What's your odo reading and driving habit? you have manual tranny?

stupid computer, the darn thing knows how much gas you use because it displays avg mpg's, and, it has a trip meter. why doesnt it have a gallons or litres consumed display?
if relying on the gas needle then do not start from the Full mark or when gas nozzle clicks off as that is not accurate method. start your measuring when you think the needle is dead-on half tank, then add 5gal of fuel and reset the trip meter, then refill 5gal when needle gets back to half tank. do this a few times recording total trip mi or km, etc. then you'll have much better estimate of mpg's.
also, the environment plays a big role here. 80%hwy/20%city doesnt mean much unless we know about the environment. roundtrips measurement also makes for better accuracy. what elevation does the car see during a trip, what temps, etc? so for me to say my at-sea-level trips get better mpg's than your car that takes trips at 2500ft is not a good comparison, etc.
I always fill up till the shut off click 3rd time. That's so the fuel have time to run into the tank. Zero trip meter and drive. Next fill up I'll see how many liters needed to fill. Read trip meter, zero it. Then divide km travelled with liters used.
I've been doing this on all fill ups. This also tells me if engine needs attention.
How I do what? Compute my MPG or look at my tripmeter when my gas gauge reads half full? Even on my lower tanks I get 200+ miles at a half tank. I'll try to remember to take a picture when I get to half a tank this time to show you.

+1 If you do this over many tanks you will have a very accurate measurement of your average mpg.
