2009 Corolla LE - Stereo Troubleshoot - NEED HELP!!! Suggestions Anyone????

Hi guys,

Ive gotta 2009 Toyota Corolla LE. With a Factory radio/speakers and all. Its the one with a 6 disc changer and no steering wheel controls. I was driving down the road a couple days ago, and the radio was on, but i had the volume down to like 3 or so...

All of a sudden a loud burst of static went thru all four of my speakers scaring the living shit out of me. Then no sound.

I turned the volume up back down and no sound...

When im driving down the road now, i can turn the volumn up or down (above 0) and if i hit a bump in the road or anything the static comes back at fulll blast no matter what level the volume is. If the volume is at 0 then no sound at all comes out.

How do i fix this? is it a connection? what do i need to do?

any suggestions would HIGHLY be appreciated.

Thanks.

If it's still under warranty take it in. If not then check your connections at the back of the radio. One must have gotten loose. Does CD or AUX work? Did you get any sub/amp installed?

unfortunately, i am 5,000 miles over warranty on the electrical components and the dealership was gonna charge me 90 bucks just to diagnose it... so thats a no go for me.

The CD and AUX both work on the stereo display, however the speakers act the same no matter what setting i have on the stereo.

I dont have any amp/subs installed. However I am not sure if there is a factory amp in the car.

Thanks man.

I will probably do this tomorrow sometime...I will let you know what I can find out...I gotta get the right tool to remove the 4 bolts holding the stereo in. Then I will check connections and go from there...hopefully its just a loose plug, but i am not sure...

I discovered today that if I have the stereo powered on, and I close either the front passenger door or the driver door, that the static bursts into the speakers....then i have to turn it off.

I have no clue whats going on...

lets do this the easy way. take one of the back speaker off and replace it with a speaker if you have one laying around. See if you get any sounds. I have a feeling that your speakers are dead or worse the stereo.

I am pretty sure the speakers arent dead...because sometimes I get static and music at the same time...

I know the stereo works properly. All the displays are working fine, the disc changer works fine...etc.

Its just I get really bad static in my speakers occasionally...

Sounds to me like a bad ground connection. Closing your doors gives the speaker static, same as when you're going on a bump suggest that.
Look at the grounding and the whole ground wire.

Would I find the ground wire behind the stereo?? or where is it?

If you do not know the ground wire I suggest you find out first before you yank your unit out. Or strongly suggest to get someone who knows to help you.

I am just wondering if its the ground wire for the stereo or the speakers individually that your talking about?

I can look at wiring diagrams

Oh! OK. Your question scares me though. Does not want you to create more problem.
Yes.The grounding is wires bolted to the car body. It's behind the unit. Just trace the wire that goes from your unit to this.
To remove the 4 bolts of your unit you'll need a 10 mm socket. To prevent the bolt dropping I usually put some electrical tape inside one side of socket wall so bolt'll stick to socket when it comes free.
