Its faster, more sporty and handles better and loads of aftermarket stuff will be found.
...Plus if you are buying new, you can't get the XRS anymore...
Canada still available for the XRS trim [2011 model], so if he want ... he can Import it, but I don't think he'll do it since cars in canada is more expensive
I had this choice when my Corolla S was totaled. I could've gone with a 1stGen tC or a 2ndGen Xrs.
I personally went with the Xrs because I just transferred all over the goodies over. I like the four doors, definitely more convenient vs the two doors. Larger second row and trunk. All my buddies just love the bodystyle of my car as well. Insurance is cheaper for sure and its rare to see a Xrs over here, so I get alot of wondering eyes and props for that.
If you do like the tC you do have a excuse not to give rides due to the 'lack of space'. Way more aftermarket support, and I loved the black + panoramic roof. 3 MORE HP lol. I kid I kid.
Although if the choices are the 2009+ Xrs or the 2011 tC. I'd definitely go for the tC.

Its 2011 for the 2.5, not 2010 for the tC.

Like others have mentioned, the new TC is pretty sweet. If you have any small kids or plan on having any within the next few years, take my word and go with a 4 door. I had a lowered TC and put the carseat in it about 3 times and said this isn't going to work. Both are nice cars.
