Single DIN unit install: How far back
Does anyone know how far back single DINs can be installed? Would I be able to fit it with the original factory bracket?
The reason I ask is I'm trying to create a car stereo solution using a 7 inch Galaxy Tab. I'll be running the RCA audio cables from the Galaxy Tab's 30 pin connector into the back of the stereo (assuming it has RCA audio inputs). I'll be creating a frame to hold the tablet in place that slides in and out of the Double Din slot in the console. I want the single DIN stereo as far back as possible so that after putting the tablet in, it won't stick from the dash.
Why not just run the Galaxy Tab into an amp and call it good? Well what happens if I forget the tablet one day? I'll be completely stereo less. With the single DIN in place, I'll atleast still be able to listen to the radio/music/etc etc.
I am aware that there are China made units that are already android based, but by doing this, I add security in the fact that my "double din head unit" is removable. Once I remove it, I can even make it look like my head unit was stolen by having random wires sticking out. =).
