2011 Corolla S - "MSG" displayed on display screen

I have a 2011 Corolla S and tonight I was driving with a friend of mine and we had the radio on, and then on the display screen, in the upper right hand corner right beside where the "CD in" box is, a box popped up beside it (to the left of the "CD in" box) that said "MSG". I have had my car since January and haven't seen this before. We dug the manual out and tried to look through there, but couldn't find anything. We came home and tried to google it and still couldn't find anything. Anyone know what this is?? I'm not overly concerned about it but it drives me crazy that I don't know what it means! Thanks!

It doesn't seem to be there all the time either. Just every once in a while. It'll come and go, and only when it's on FM radio, and it doesn't seem to be there for every FM station. And never on satellite, cd, or iPod.

Maybe the 2011 manual will help. For sure theres a description for that.

MSG stands for message I guess, maybe because your phone is connected to the BT

That was my initial thinking too but there's never a message of any sort (text, vm, email) when it shows up, and like I said, it's only when it's on certain radio stations: never on XM, CD, or iPod.

It is showing there is RDS (Radio Data System) information.

Press the TEXT button and the display will show the message. This is usually just the station's call letters, or name.

Some areas transmit traffic information or other emergency info that will show up there.

Correct....when "MSG" displays, it shows that the song/artist info is available to view. However, while you are driving, the smaller text won't display. (Try clicking on "Text" when stopped. You'll see what I mean)
