She hits parked cars after swerving. Suspect is caught with marijuana and cocaine, police say.
GLENDALE — A Glendale police officer sustained minor injuries early Monday after crashing into two parked cars while responding to the scene where a man had tried to flee from police, officials said.
The officer, responding to calls for backup, had been traveling with lights and siren activated on Broadway and had entered the intersection at Glendale Avenue, where another motorist failed to stop. The officer was forced to swerve, hitting the parked cars.
Soon after the crash, a Glendale police dog tracked down Nicholas Romero, 25, hiding in the attic of a gas station building on Broadway and Eagledale Avenue. He was arrested on suspicion of having three to four pounds of marijuana in a stolen BMW.
Police also found a suitcase containing $16,900 in cash and two scales.
The officer, who was not identified, was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.
Romero was in police custody Monday. Officers had grown suspicious when they noticed the BMW didn’t have license plates.
When police ran the vehicle identification number, they discovered the car had been recently reported stolen in Glendale, officials said.
Police detained the passengers and said they noticed Romero ducking under the cashier counter.
Officers set up a perimeter around the gas station and searched for Romero, who was found hiding in an attic crawl space.
Police also found a silver vial in the crawl space containing cocaine, according to police reports.
The passengers said they didn’t know the BMW was stolen. During the search, police found a suitcase containing two large plastic bags full of marijuana, which Lorenz said was likely worth several thousand dollars. Another large plastic bag of marijuana was found in a backpack.
High-potency marijuana sells from $5,000 to $22,000 per pound, Lorenz said.
My fiance and I are still looking for a replacement car.
But for sure we are considering a lower monthly payment for a car, leading us to a cheaper car.
Here is our choices. (We are only considering a brand new car.)
2012 Hyundai Accent GLS or GS (Pro: Redesigned from the inside out. Gets 30/40MPG, Active Eco System, Direct Injection, 10yr. Powertrain warranty Con: It might be too small for us. We kind of want a descent amount of rear passenger space)
2012 Hyundai Elantra GLS (Pro: Redesigned, Larger interior space than the accent, 29/40MPG, 10yr. Powertrain warranty Con:Im not sure.)
2011 Corolla Base (Pro: Reliability, Familiar with the car. Con: Exterior looks)
All opinions are welcome.
P.S. For now I'm in a 2011 Corolla Base Rental Car.

Wow...sorry you have to replace your car so unexpectedly, but it's fortunate that you nor your fiance weren't in the car when it happened ...I live down the 134 in the Pasadena area, so this hits close to home. Good luck finding a new car, though you would do better to buy a used vehicle for the time being until the new car market offers better deals.

I was shocked to see this happened to you the moment when I learned that you live in Glendale. I live in Alhambra/Monterey Park and go to Glendale Galleria and Americana from time to time.
Glad you are ok and good luck on your next purchase.
Sorry for your loss. That sucks to lose your "S." I've recently driven the Elantra & I thought it was okay. I still like my Corolla S more & I like the looks of the Corolla more. I may be in the minority but the looks of the Elantra are too much for me compared to the subtle muscular looks of the Corolla. When I was looking at prices the Elantra was not any less than the Corolla was either across the different models. Just my 2c of course.

Thank you guys for all the concerns. We are leading towards the elantra but it can still change given that its gonna take 3-5weeks of negotiating, processing etc. etc. You know how the government works... And yes, I have the gap insurance. Hopefully everything goes smooth and well.
