Touch Up Pen

Let me start by saying I'm a 26 year old girl and I don't know anything about cars - other than how to drive one haha So I'm looking for some advice

So today I took my '11 Corolla S in for it's first oil change today, and while I was there I pointed out some scratches that had happened. They buffed some for me, but then there was one on the back bumper that they said they would have to sell me a touch up pen for. It's paint on one end and a clear coat on the other end. Any tips on how to apply it? I've been googling it and I've seen some comments saying it'll end up looking patchy. And now I'm really scared to use it.... especially with not knowing what I'm doing. Any advice?

They sell several different types of pens. Can you describe yours? The best method I use is to apply in light layers and let it dry. If you apply too much and it looks "bulgy" then keep a towel handy and wipe it off quickly and try again. Just take your time, breathe, and keep a steady hand. It should wipe off easily if you aren't happy with the results right after applying.

I find whenever I try to apply the clearcoat, as soon as the clear touches the paint it lifts the paint. Anyone else notice this?

I think we do have the same pen, my dealer gave me that pen with color and clear on the other side. Its easy to use, make sure everything is clean before you apply. Well it depends how big the scratch is. BTW, welcome to TN

i think a toothpick makes the paint fill the scratches better. after it dries, give it a quick buff and youre set.
