So the alternator in my wifes 2009 Corolla died yesterday while driving around. First the battery light came on then the power steering quit working and then the ABS light and brake light came on. Then all the lights and gauges in the dash started turning on and off. I charged the battery and tried it again and same thing so this leads me to the alternator. Unfortunately my 3 yr warranty expired in April so I'm on my own on this one.
Anyways so I will reference Tah's posting on DIY serpentine belt replacement found here
DIY 2009 1.8 L Serpentine Belt Change
so I got the 12mm swivel bolt and 12mm tension bolt off but the 14mm swivel bolt is really causing me problems. I don't know if I am doing something wrong but I am trying to turn it counterclockwise (left) but it is really in there and has now rounded off so the only option I have now is vice grips but even they keep slipping and making it worse. I am really cranking on that thing so it is really in there tight. I also sprayed it with PB blaster but that didn't help either.
Am I doing something wrong like turning it the wrong way or is there a different bolt I am supposed to be turning? Thanks for your help in advance.
