2009 Corolla S Squeel when accelerating?

About a month ago I began noticing a slight squeal/creaking noise (similar to the sound when brakes are down to their warning levels). It happens whenever I step on the acceleration pedal slightly and for about half a second you can hear the squeal.

Unfortunately the noise gets even worst when you're on the highway. When I try to coast at around 60mph the squeal becomes constant until I take my foot off the pedal, it's the same thing when I use cruise control too. The noise disappears when I depress the pedal more to accelerate.

I went to the dealer today to get my scheduled maintenance but the mechanic didn't notice anything on the test drive so I insisted for me to show him. He heard it and believes it may have came from the alternator. Unfortunately for me my 3 year warranty ended 2 months ago and they will need to discuss the situation with their boss or it will end up costing quite a bit to replace something that "MIGHT" be the cause.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Right now I'm really hoping it's just a loose bolt somewhere that needs tightening up.

Hi I'm a master tech at a dealer in CT. And yes we have had issues with alternators causing a noise. There is actually a TSB on "Abnormal Noise" from alternator. Also there is a TSB for an UPDATED drive belt. I would have your dealer examine these TSB's. I don't see why they are throwing away work.

Do you know if the TSB applies in Canada as well?

Thanks!

Totally forgot to update this, but here it goes:

Took my car in for an oil change and told them about the squealing noise, when I went back to grab my car they told me the mechanic couldn't hear the noise so I took him out in my car to show him. He isn't quite sure what is making the noise but thinks it's the crappy redesigned alternator for the 10th gen corollas.

They talked to the GM and he denied the request to fix it (car was 3 months out of warranty) and the mechanic told me to just drive it until it breaks down so I won't be spending tons of money diagnosing and replacing random parts.

Probably a month or go I got a rental Corolla (2009) and it had the same issue! So for those of you closing in on your warranty period make sure you keep an ear out for this squealing noise.

The noise can be heard while slightly accelerating/maintaining speed (will be very obvious on the highway when you're trying to maintain 60ish mph). It's one of those things where as soon as you hear it, you won't be able to stop hearing it.

this sound couldnt by chance be coming from the throttle? I have had a squealing noise for the longest time but it seems to be coming more from the throttle body under the hood. usually makes the sound between 1500 rpm and 2000 rpm. then goes away.

I think so! It makes a sound similar to that of worn down brakes. High-pitch and can go on indefinitely when you push down the throttle a little. Like I said in my first post, it happens on Cruise control too!

I have had toyota look at my car and they have told me its a problem many corolla's have but they havent been able to figure out a fix for it. I have heard on this forum though that some with the same issue have had this fixed somehow.
