Gauge Pod

Here's the dilemma. I spontaneously purchased a gauge pod and modified it to fit on the dash (no pics of modified version yet)

I was planning on using a Volt, Oil Pressure and EGT gauge in preparation to once my warranty is up (probably in two years) I will either turbo or supercharge so a boost or A/F gauge will either replace two of the three or I will find somewhere else.

My dilemma is whether I should follow through because I think it goes with the dash but the gauges looks too generic. The closest I found are the Autometer Pro-Comp II but I'll be spending over $400 in gauges. I also found Depo Racing which are the same as Defi for a fraction but they look too...lets just say not my style. Any thoughts?

I personally never liked the gauge pods in the center even though my friends turbo Tc is like that. I like it to be on the pillar. The only car I can think of that can pull that look off is the Z's and even the FJ as it has the clock and the tilt-meter thing

I've always loved VDO gauges myself, excellent build quality at a reasonable price. I have a similar gauge cluster that I used to have installed in my 82 Tercel. It fits perfect in the same location as you showed. I was thinking of getting an extra top dash piece so that I could notch a hole on it for the wires. I'm also planning a turbo system as soon as turbokits.com gets one for our Corolla.

I personally like the way J-Roc has his gauges in his turbo Xrs, if I needed the extra gauges, I would go this route... Its more 'driver oriented'

I'd like to see pics of your modified version of your gauge pod to fit, I'll hold my opinion on that till then. Do you also plan on color matching it to match the metallic finish on the dash?

I was told it would be dangerous to mount any gauges in that position since the air bag is located in the "A" pillar.

Ouch, did they replace the car or did they fix it? I can see that the curtains doesn't actually deploy where the gauge pods were. Safe to assume its ok to place them there.

I see that too. I wanted an "A" pillar gauge mount but I was told that the air bag deploys from there but I can see from the pictures that it doesn't. Now if we could only find a 2-3 gauge holder for that area I would be set!

If Airbags doesn't employ at the A-Piller ... I rather have gauges installed there ... I find it looks more "clean"

Installing that POD there reminds me of the echo/yaris with the center cluster lol
