Hey guys, another car in an accident. This one was my wife's baby, a brand new Mazda2 Sport Manual. Made the first payment yesterday. Thankfully my baby (my wife) was ok, but hers doesn't look so hot. Think this is totaled? More after the break...
Shiny and new on this side...
Ugly on this one...
Note the marker plastic in-between her doors...
Rainy day, blind curve, Hit-and-Run by a white pickup who was on her side of the road. She swerved and avoided the head-on but he ran into her side starting at the mirror all the way to the corner. Spun her and he went right on through and kept going. We've got statements from the next person that passed by him on the road, and are hoping that he either turns himself in or the cops find him. We are out at least our deductible plus towing, and then another few thousand if it is totaled because we don't have Gap insurance. We would prefer take the hit and have it totaled because it will never be the same.
Thoughts?
We will probably have to wait until at least Monday to find out more, although I wouldn't mind a few educated guesses on what we can expect.
I personally would rather take the hit and have it totaled ... but lets see how it goes if there is any frame damage.
The Mazda2 is a nice little car ... my parents was about to buy it but got the yaris hatch instead ... I personally like the mazda2
But since it's a very new car and that you just made the first payment ... depending on your insurance ... You might get the value of the car that you paid for
glad you are OK. I think it should be totalled. It will never be the same if you fix it. Such a jolt like that will cause unseen damage all over that will give you troubles from now on.
Glad the family came out well, see what your insurance will do, as it probably looks totaled from the pictures you've shown us. Let us know what your beloved one will drive next, whether it's another 2 or other car.
If it is totaled, we would actually buy another Mazda2 exactly the same as what we had, no changes. Pretty fun car. Sharp drop off in power into 2nd, but other than that it is fun to drive. A quick search in our area turns up exactly 0 results for a 2 sport manual in blue within 200 miles of us though :-/. We only had ~1200 miles on it and the only thing we did was replace the stock radio with a pioneer avic-f700bt that we had in her previous car. We made one payment the day before it got wrecked by that jerk.
We did have a warranty on it for an additional 4 years past the initial 3, I'm unsure how this accident affects that.
Happy to see that everyone is okay. That Mazda 2 looks totaled to me. You should be able to cancel the extended warranty for a full refund since it was never used & than just purchase a new one on the next car you buy.

It looks totaled to me. If it is totaled you shouldl get nada clean retail value on it just depends on your company. I've been into two total lose and always received enough to pay off my cars my last one I even had a extra 998 dollars come back to me.
Honestly, it depends on damage to the frame underneath. It looks like it is mostly sheet metal damage, which can be replaced, but you have to lift it up to get a look underneath.
For example, my girlfriends 2011 Hyundai Tuscon was hit in the right rear corner while she was making a left turn, a lot of sheet metal damage, but the rear suspension was collapsed and pushed inward and the axle was bent. So the insurance company totaled the car due to the frame damage.
Gold is also right, it won't be the same, there may be things that they just cannot fix, like a buckle in the body somewhere else in the car, due to the impact physics.
