To all 2011 Corolla owners, give me advice please? Should I buy?
Hey guys, I'm new to TN and this is my first thread.
I'm about to buy a new car and was strongly considering the new 11 corolla LE Automatic. I already have good prices and am a serious buyer. I love corolla's and have been driving a 2001 corolla for 10 years.
However, what's stopping me are the negatives about this car. MANY people are complaining of performance problems in this car such as:
- RPM jumping weirdly at 100 km/h
- Car not de-accelerating enough at 100 km/h
- Car de-accelerating TOO much? :S
- Not performing like it should going uphill and downhill
I don't want to buy a new car and have to go through problems, visiting the dealership every 2 days.
What do you guys think?
Does anyone here own a 11 Corolla Automatic? What do you think of it so far? Should I buy it?
Please give me your honest advice.
Thanks!

Why don't you go to Enterprise and rent one for a few days. Put it to the test.
I think the Corolla reputation is as solid now as it always had.
And welcome!!!

I just purchased a 2011 a few weeks ago due to great rebates. I love my car so far, and I don't regret the purchase.
The whole issue where the tach is jumping a couple hundred rpm's and the engine seems to cut off is aggravating, I have to admit. But would it stop me from purchasing it again? No. I have an appointment and we will see how the dealership will treat me so that will be a big thing too...so far they have been more than helpful and upfront.
Other than that, its' great. The engine is very refined, IMHO. Not noisy at all and when it does make noise it's not buzzy. Usually the transmission is smooth. The ride is a good balance of comfort and agility.
Definitely go with the Bluetooth option, though. Well worth it. I never thought I'd use it but I'm in love. Very happy with my purchase just wish they would fix this DFCO thing.
You're right about the RPM jumping weirdly, but it doesn't matter if you go get yourself a Weapon R Throttle for it! On a serious case, I'm from florida and not much hilly areas so I cant tell you about the cars performance through that. But in bridges like the skyway bridge it keeps up if you give it a little of gas. Really, I don't see much/any problems with my car (2011 corolla S). The corolla is a good choice of car to buy! But if anyone else is reading this I got my hands on the fr-s when it comes out

2010 Corolla S-Totalled
We came from a 2009 Mustang Roush Speedster (S/C'd 435hp) and bought a 2011 Corolla S. Got it loaded for under $17k. Once you get used to the performamce its actually a fun little car to drive. we average 31mpg city and 40+ on the highway. With those kind of numbers the "performance" you look foward to is at the gas pump... We have had our Corolla for 6 months and are very happy and never looked back.
Thanks a lot guys! I appreciate your opinions.
I would love to go with the bluetooth, but in Canada, the LE upgrade is a whole $1500 more then the LE standard so I'll have to pass.
Thanks again,
anyone else have anything to share is welcome to let me know.
athough, @jeweler54, i don't know how anyone can think of a corolla as a fun to drive after owning a roush mustang with 400+hp... hahaha

I went from a 2006 mustang v6, to a 2005 honda civic vp, to now my 2011 corolla le. So far i love the car. I do have to admit that the RPM's jumping is annoying, if I even notice it when it does it. Mine usually jumps the most around 45-55 mph, and it's barely noticeable to anyone in the car but me just because i know it's going on. Mine also usually happens the worst when the cruise is on at those speeds. Do i miss my mustang? Not really. Do I miss the Civic? definitely not now that i have all the comfort of the Mustang, and the reliability/gas mileage of a civic, all tied up with a lifetime powertrain warranty. I paid 17,6xx for mine. Wish i could've gotten an S for that! All in all the only problem i have had with the car that really bothered me was that it had a blown speaker when i got it but the dealer had the part in the next day and had it replaced. I have noticed a it coasting a little farther at highway speeds than most cars, but i don't mind that at all, the brakes are for slowing down not coasting. This thing is so much better than my old civic, handles better, is faster, WAY more comfortable, way less road noise, the list just goes on and on. If you're in the market for a new car, i highly recommend the new corolla. My dad has a 2009 that just turned 50,000 miles today and all he has done to it is change the oil, air filter, and tires and still has yet to give him a problem. Also, most dealers are will to talk more on the price on these than say a new civic, elantra etc... because they aren't completely redesigned, they can/will usually allow more to come off of the price than the other two mentioned. I got 3k off of my car, where as when i was talking to the local honda dealer they wouldn't take anything off the sticker EXCEPT $500 for owning a honda before. The Elantra had a $900 dealer add on fee (fair market value or some crap [price gouging!]) on top of the sticker and shipping and handling (another $900). So all that plays into everything too. plus the lifetime powertrain warranty lol.
I still love my Corolla that I've had for over 2 years...heck almost 2.5 and never had an issue. Heck I just got mine back from the shop when I crashed it and it feels as if nothing ever happened. You can do so much to it to make it your own while saving at the pump. It's a little car that surprises all and leaves a great reputation. Most likely you are going to get one made in Canada as thats where you are from, heck same province and city. I had a rental from that was made there and it was PERFECT.. the build quality is top noch and it was a 11' LE auto.
I would suggest you get a S 5spd manual as it is MUCH BETTER unless you think otherwise of course

My last car was a BMW 535I. Now a LE. I too did'nt opt for the upgrade. Don't like leather and have no use for sunroof. The LE (Canadian) have different centre console, auto climate, among other stuffs. Main thing I like is the "smart key" Did'nt like it at first (new technology), now I find is the best thing to have. I've since changed the HU to a China made 7" DVD/GPS/Rear camera and also have blue tooth. So far at 70,000 km is oil changes and front disc pads. Get's around 8 lit/100 km. mostly city driving.

Remember that you will always hear a few people complain because they complain loudly but the thousands that are happy are usually quiet, this is the case with any product. I absolutely love my 09 Corolla S but I would highly recommend getting a 5-speed manual instead of the 4A.
