Non dealer work on car

I'm certainly not in the league everybody else here is in, as I wouldn't even consider doing an oil change on my own, let alone tear apart the brakes, or any other part of the vehicle. I'm tired of paying big fees at the dealership and would rather go to my local guy, who does a great job at a fraction of the fee.
My question is would this void my warranty not bringing it to the dealer?

2010, still under warranty.

TIA

Your warranty will not be affected by having an independent shop do maintenance or brakes. I would look around and find a shop that others recommend. You'll likely save a bit of cash having the work done somewhere besides the dealer.

+1 toyota has been really good about letting people do their own work (oil changes, brakes, etc...) and not voiding the warranty.

It's not up to Toyota. Federal laws governing warranty policies are in effect.

Edit: Just for information, here is a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuso...s_Warranty_Act

Thanks to all. I have a mechanic who I've trusted with all my cars, he gets a phone call first thing Monday Morning.

Cheers

You could also see if any friends or other TN members in your area could help show you how to do some basic maintenance like oil changes & brakes. It's easy to learn how & you'll be able to save even more money in the long run & understand your car better.

I've been showing my daughters how to do basic maintenance so they know how to do oil changes too!
