I have a 2010 corolla le, I added the toyota xm in the trunk, on 90+ hot days
i get zero reception with the factory antenna despite having a 40 dollar xm portable with the magenet on the floor for testing getting 3 bars
The stock connector looks Fakra but appears propriety, is this true?
I got the 2 year service plan for free and Toyota refuse to replace the antenna despite the portable getting a signal.
I would go with a 20 dollar xm fakra magnet but it doesn't appear to look the 100% the same, tss says it works with pioneer but I don't believe
the toyota pioneer unit has the same connector, its sqare inside where the the replacement one is round inside

Just use an iPod. I'm not sure about your issue, I just think that SAT radio is a rip off compared to my iPod that I have all my favorite music on for free. Good luck in figuring it out.

Its free, I would feel highly obligated to use it too for two years. Did you check Crotchfield? www.crutchfield.com
I was contemplating the same. I get signals in and out. I'm getting ready to switch over to the Nav unit and it doesn't have Sat radio but would like to keep the option open for Sat Radio.

XM and Sirius are way more than just music though my friend. There's actual content on their as well, frankly you can't get most places. NFL, NBA, Stern, O&A, etc, etc....yeah iPod's are great for music that you own, but they dont deliver exclusive content like Sirus/XM does. Just sayin' its way more than just a music service...

I know it is, I just listen to music while driving. I had it free for 3 months when I bought my Corolla & rarely used it. For sports I prefer to watch in on TV. If the price were better than maybe.

I got the xm app on my ipod and bagged it in the car.
I got the free service plan, so I'll bitch again about the antenna next oil change, but its intermittent on super hot days, and my next oil change is in september so without making a video, I doubt I can demonstrate the issue. Plus the car has to be sitting i direct sunlight and real hot for it happen. Depending on the day it cools down while driving and comes back on.
I have a portble player from my previous car, but hate all the cigarette charger and wires all over the place. I saw in diy a guy that used the small upper glove box, but that's a pain if you want to change channels.
And I have factory XM, with a 200 dollar toyota rip off tuner in the trunk.
The music channels are pretty bad sounding, well the rock any way, they over compress the music.
So, I do use my ipod or mp3 discs for music. I listen to xm for Stern, O&A, and Ron and Fez. I got wifi at work, so I just stream that crap there, 3 bucks is way cheaper anyway.
My XM radio reception is comlete garbage. I have an 09 XRS , and i get more no signals and no audio.. its f*ck*n aggravating. I called XM a couple times and they said to try resetting the radio. I have no idea what to do.
What are your guys' thoughts on getting an external dock and play xm radio and using the AUX jack. Does anyone find the external players get better reception?
I love the product, but when it works for maybe 10 minutes every hour.. how can i appreciate it?

When testing my stock antenna, I had the 39.00 xm portable unit with the magnet antenna on the passenger seat getting 3 bars and perfect reception while the stock system had no signal. After paying the outragous 200 bucks for the toyota reciever though, I feel they should fix antenna problem under warrenty.
I gotta make a video if the isssue, because they turn the radio on when I go for the free 2 year service oil changes and if gets a signal they say there is nothing wrong with it.
The XM portable do work good, I used it my tacoma in the aux jack and it sounded as good if not better then the "factory" in the rolla (when it gets reception) , also the 40 buck cheap xm units have better displays, they don't cut off the text like on the corolla head unit.
If it happened right away, I would have returned the toyota tuner, now I have 200 dollar brick in the trunk.
