Where is my hood insulator??

So while installing my Takeda intake and staring at my open hood for a good hour (longer than I normally do) I got a sudden urge that there was something amiss with the way things looked.

I started marveling at the numerous holes scattered oh so symmetrically on the underside of the hood and that's when I realized, "Waaait! Isn't a hood insulator supposed to go there??".

I was wondering if any of you have heard of a hood insulator for our corollas. They seem to have them on just about every car I've ever driven. I drive an LE, so it could be a cost cutting move. Do any of you S or XRS, or XLE owners have one?

If these things do indeed exist, anyone got a part number? The one I found on TRD sparks looks nothing like what I would expect one to be LOL.

If I'm not mistaken the Corolla Base/CE, LE, S, & XLE models don't get the hood insulators. But the Xrs models do

Dang. I looked at the XRS part and it's about a 100 bucks. I wonder if I can just purchase the pins and make my own hood insulator and add some soundproofing stuff on it too.

What's a good material to use as my base?

Main purpose of it is to pretty much cut down engine noise. If your engine is stock, no need to add one, the 1.8s were really quiet at idle stock.

Looks tacky without it though. Plus there's some wires on the underside exposed to engine heat. But then that's what the engine cover is for :P

Yah Shft99, that's what I was thinking too, I'll probably go try and make my own insulator/sound dampener.

Scrap yard will have it. Just rip one off another vehicle and trim to shape. Pins can be found there too lol.

The hood insulator and front undercover under the bumper are both XRS-only parts. 1.8L models do not come with them.

That I do. I've been so busy with my MR2 that I haven't gotten around to it.
