plethora of questions 2011 Corolla S

First off id like to say hello, im currently waiting for my brand new 2011 Corolla S to arrive sometime this week but have a couple questions concerning some modding i plan on doing..

I just bought a Weapon R short ram intake, is ti 100% safe for my car, has anyone experienced any problems with aftermarket intakes like emissions fail or check engine light coming on? any input would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I chose to go with the upgraded sound system, im hearing a lot on this forum about a jbl upgrade? does jbl speakers come with the upgraded deck or is the upgrade from Toyota strictly just the deck itself and 6 speakers?

Im very excited on joining the forum and hope i can contribute sometime in the future. Very excited to get my Corolla (5speed, trd lowering springs, rear-front strut). Thanks Again!!

First,

I've got a Takeda SRI and it's caused zero problems for the 3 months I've had it on. No check engine light, no knocks, no nothin' except for an awesome tone and looks when the hood is popped.

I don't know about the JBL - I think that comes from the factory and it's just speakers if I understand correctly. I'll let Jim and other JBL-owners chime in, though.

Didn't know the 2011 Corolla's still had the JBL option, didn't even see it on the website

Not sure about the 2011 models for the JBL H/U but for the 09-10 owners, we got the same looking H/U but it had the 6-Disc CD change and was also XM Radio capable. It also had the B/T standard with the JBL, and Toyota advertises the JBL speaker system as 6 speakers in 4 locations. The amp for the system is located under the front passenger seat.

The JBL system was definitely a upgrade from the standard stereo, but not the best. I had the JBL in my Xrs, but I still upgraded mine to a full aftermarket system. But don't get me wrong, the JBL option gets the job done, can hit bass pretty descent without the use of the sub. I just wanted more....

Thanks guys, i have high hopes for my Weapon R intake as ive heard a lot of good things about its performance, FINGERS CROSSED!!!

Id really like to know for sure if JBL speakers comes standard with the upgraded Head Unit and bluetooth option. for 560 extra dollars, one would assume your getting more then just a bigger screen and bluetooth

I hear you on the "more bass." Im kicking myself right now because i sold my toyota 4runner which had my first custom sound system in it and it hit HARD. Looks like ill have to start over and rebuild another stock sound system if JBL doesnt come standard in my 2011 Upgraded sound system

The JBL stereo was no longer an option for 2011, so SOL there.

to TN. Congrats on the new S & good for you for getting a 5-speed manual! It's a much better choice than the AT. I have a Takeda SRI that I love with no problems at all.

The JBL option is not available anymore on the 11. It was an upgraded HU but it looked the same as the standard HU. It also had an external 8 channel amp with 8 speakers in 6 locations. The sound is very good IMO. More than good enough for most people. I'm older now though & I don't like so much bass that I can't here myself think & it shakes the car so music sounds like crap. The system is very well balanced IMO. I have since added a Rosen HU with nav that I can add a subwoofer to if I want to. I was looking at the new 12" JBL custom enclosure but I'm not sure if I need more bass.

Can't help with the Sri, but as far as upgraded sound, I got the upgrade minus nav. So stock Bluetooth headunit and the no name 6 speaker setup.. And honestly it sounded ok. But for a stock sound system it was the quietest and crappiest I've ever heard.

It was the first thing I started to change. I did speaker swap first with stock head unit, and that tied me Over for a bit but now the entire system is new and everything has been changed right down to the Sirius from xm conversion and 2 subs added.

If your not a car audio fan you might be happy, but judging from u saying about your last system, your gonna be replacing the audio in this car.

I've never had problems thinking with the bass pounding, and I upgraded all of my speakers so all of the music is very well balanced.

Thanks for the help guys, I listen to everything so im hoping all i need to add is a sub and amp, maybe a new deck, if i would have known that the sound system was below average i wouldnt have spent the extra money upgrading it and just swapped out a better system....I listen to a lot of Metal/Rock so luckily bass isnt a huge issue though bas doesnt hurt...

Has anyone noticed any extreme HP Gains with there aftermarket intake? ive heard some Fish Stories of 8+ gains, is this normal for just an intake or are we talking 8+ HP gains with Intake, exhaust, and Headers? Thanks Again

That's because you are young! I was just pointing out the people that I hear playing music so loud that all you hear is the bass distorting. You know the type of person. I wasn't saying that you play it like that, just for my musical taste that my JBL puts out enough bass for me. I've thought about the new JL 12" sub since it's a custom box that takes up very little space, just not sure about it's high cost.

In the picture it's just hard to see the box. If you know what's there you may be able to see some details but for others that don't it's hard to see much, that's all I was saying. I wasn't saying anything negative.

The JBL isn't worth it for its price. My buddy went to my sound shop, they replicated the custom box for his 350z and paid about half the price including the sub.

I'd recommend getting a JL sub and just have a sound shop custom fab a box for ya.
