The light comes on X miles after you reset it last time (usually when the oil was changed), nothing else. So I'm guessing you did an oil change at 31900 miles?
Sometimes I'm glad that light is a USA-only thing.
yeah im pretty sure it just lights up when its expected for an oil changed. i changed my oil before i needed to but the dealer didnt reset it so technically now, when im suppose to have it changed, its just on. i need to fix it cause that light is pissing me off haha.

yes, i know the diff between them, maint light can be lots of things, like radiator fluid, trans fluid, timing belt/chain, etc etc. why would it tell me something needs maintenance at 36900? and having oil on the maint light is stupid.
why would maint light be programmed for oil changes? the maint light isnt just for oil, is it?

because if i reset the light 10k miles later after a oil change then whats the purpose? it may be the case that it flashes or goes on after set # of miles, like every 5k, that might make sense. and i dont know the answer, what exactly is due for maintenance at 36900 miles?
It is just a dumb light. Every 4500 miles it flashes, another 500 and it is on for good until you reset it. Nothing more.
It is "meant" as an assistance light to remind idiots to change the oil. You could use it as a reminder to clean your carpets or wash your dog or something, whatever.
Truly though, all it is is a light that goes on every 5k until you go thru the stupid ritual to get rid of it. I'd love to just get rid of it entirely.
^^^ if you guys want...its definitely possible. you could remove the IP gage cluster and either put black vinyl behind the maint required thing so the led wont ever shine through or you could remove the led (might give an error though..not sure).
yeah its kinda dumb for us. haha but for the the rest of the corolla community i suppose it helps

every 5k from last reset? is that right? then hmmmmmmmmmmmm, nobody reset my maint light at 36400 miles. possibly some other reminder?
