New member here! I'm currently in the market for a new car and narrowed my choice down to a 2011 Corolla S. I am looking for one main thing: good fuel economy. 90% of my driving will be in the city, so a lot of stop and go.
I would like to hear from actual 2011 Corolla (non-XRS) users how many miles (or KM) you obtain on a full tank and if you do mostly city or highway driving. I'm looking at an automatic transmission by the way.
Aside from fuel consumption, feel free to share any other thoughts about the 2011 Corolla and how you like it. Hopefully the replies I get will not be too biased :p
2011 corolla here 9000kms on it, mostly highway driving, but highways in the gta. Usually get 650-700ish kms per tank..
Very comfy smooth riding car.. If car audio matters to you the 6 speaker non jbl setup is junk.
I have the leather, sun and sound package. Only thing I regret is getting the sound package.
Over all awesome car.
Also auto btw

My 2011 has 2300 miles on it so far and best i've seen is 32 combination, 38 strictly highway. i don't do a whole lot of "strictly" city the quickest way to get to the hospital where i work is about half city half interstate (12 miles total), and i never run my car all the way down, but i do see around 200-240 miles per half a tank depending on my driving. My dad always preaches that if you run it all the way down your fuel pump will burn up quicker due to gas not being in there sloshing around cooling it down. so i fill up at around 1/2 to 1/4 tank of gas or once a week for me. That and i pass like 2156123 gas stations on my way to work so might as well fill up when i get that low.
just filled up my first tank yesterday so not sure if im the best exmp. (only 450mi on the Odometer already had 140mi on it from a dealer trade) but... the lil computer thingy says i was averaging 28.9MPG and that was mostly city driving. says my avg speed was 22MPH to give you an idea.
on a side note i have a manual so i might have a tad of an advantage over an auto but in all fairness ive not been driving in the ideal gear all the time cuz im still trying to break in my engine. so i randomly down shift here and there.
i really like this car, and i like the way it drives when compared to the other 2011/2012 offerings but, its on the lower side of MPGs in comparison.... if thats the most important thing on your mind you may want to look other places. im sure a handful of other cars are getting about 5MPG higher on avg. IMO they drove like crap so i got the corolla instead.

+1 that the other cars may get higher mileage. my friend bought a 2012 civic 5 speed a few weeks ago. he averages 37-38 combination with his driving fairly conservative. if i was looking for a coupe the civic would have been it but i wanted more room than my old civic (2005) and i hated the looks of the new 4 door civics, so the corolla was my choice. and i got pretty close to the same stuff on it for 2k cheaper

same here!
im actually a civic guy, but the 2012s are total poop IMO.
they look like a turd and drive like a old stationwagon.... (WTF?) i wanted a sporty nimble compact and they fudged the 2012 civics so bad i looked elsewere.... i enjoy driving so a few MPGs dont bother me knowing ill have more fun looking at and driving my car.
im still sad about the Civic tho... i wanted one SO BAD!

My 09 S has the same engine & transmission & I've averaged 36.5 mpg over my first 30k miles. I'm more than happy!

Same lol my civic won me over even after having a mustang. the coupes drive great just couldn't see getting one since i'm getting married and i didn't want to have to buy another car if a family came along in a few years lol
I average about 28.5 mpg city and a full tank takes me to 300 miles even with my type of driving

2010 Corolla S-Totalled
On a recent vacation I rented a 2010 Corolla S with an automatic. We got over 40 mpg out of one tank and close to 40 on another. The lowest fuel mileage we got was just over 32. That tank may have been because we had to use the a/c more and were going 80 on the interstate.
I own a 2011 Corolla S with a manual. We get between 31 and 35 mpg with it. My mpg numbers are from me using a calculator, not the car's computer. I find my mpg is about 1 mpg less than the car's computer figures it to be.
My car has about 9k miles on it now. I replaced the horrible stock Bridgestones with Michelin Primacy MXV4s. The car handles much better with these. One of the Bridgestones was damaged from some road shrapnel and I decided to replace them all instead of buying one of the stock tires for $187. I would like to add that not all Bridgestones are bad.
Things I don't like about the car are the driver's seat doesn't move back far enough and the steering drift that can be read about in other threads. The new tires and an alignment did not cure it.
