Installed XenonDepot HIDs, Review sorta...Props to Steve!
It all started about two months ago when I called XenonDepot and spoke to Steve. I was initially going to buy a set of DDM HIDs but read on here that some members were having issues with their kits. I drilled Steve with questions (Sorry Steve lol) about his products versus the competitors that have been discussed here and he gave me the rundown between them. With the quality and customer service that Steve provided, I chose to select one of their HID kits. Dont get me wrong, he didnt bash any other companies but just told me what his offered and answered my questions completely.
Then came another decision lol.....which kit do I go with? I called him back a week later to ask about the Volt and Xtreme kits. The main difference is the relay harness that the Xtreme comes with, which I knew, but I wanted to know the feedback about the Volt. He told me that many customers get the Volt kit since its a little less expensive and have been very happy. I was curious about the longevity and running a kit on our cars without a relay harness. Every car that I had prior to my Corolla, I have ran a relay, whether it came with the kit or I made it myself.
In the end, I bought the Xtreme kit just because I wanted that peace of mind with a harness. It is a little more expensive, but "you gotta pay to play" right? SO anyways, I just installed it and happy with my decision. I got the 4300k Xtreme kit and WeatherTech Window Visors.
Thank you Steve for all your help and sorry if I was a pest. Customer service is top notch, dont stray away from that. One major reason why I chose XenonDepot.
WeatherTech Visors
Xtreme 4300k
There's not that much glare in person. I am going to have to try and get a different angle or camera.

all hid kits to me are the same..it all depends on who you buy them from..if they offer warranty and stuff..but most come the same place either germany or china..
It was a pleasure working with you. I actually prefer it when customers take their time and ask questions. This way they know what they are getting and can make an educated decision.
For any ToyotaNation members interested in XenonDepot HID kits, make sure to use coupon code "TN" to save $25 on your order and get free shipping on HID kit orders that are shipping within the continental USA =)
why would it be illegal? tons of people have aftermarket HIDs. XenonDepot has great customer service as I mentioned in my first post. You can obviously go with a cheaper merchant, but I didnt mind paying for the service provided by Steve at XD.
if you are looking for a $30 HID kit, check out ebay and play with that quality and if there is a need for customer service, Good Luck.
And, XenonDepot's Volt kit is only $100

Is this kit legal on the street? What's so special about XenonDepot HID kit vs their competitors?

It is illegal. Any change to headlights not being tested by DOT is prohibited, including retrofit.

did not know that. i have yet to see any tickets for HIDs as being illegal.
I would think that changing bulbs in your car is illegal too? because technically HIDs can be compared to changing OEM bulbs to Sylvania SilverStars or XtraVisions

If our headlights are designed for halogen, changing a new (DOT approved) halogen bulb is legal; but putting a new HID bulb in that housing is illegal because the focal points are different. The housing is not designed to work with HID. Some states require additional test including headlight aiming in addition to the emission test, which some people have to take out their HID kit in order to pass the test. It is hard for police to plot out who has HID kit under the hood, but if you get into an accident and they find that out, you know the result!
PS: A headlight passing the DOT test must have some requirements such as beam pattern (the cut-off is just a small factor; a good cut-off beam doesn't guarantee the headlight will pass the test), shaking proof, water proof,... Retrofited headlights can pass the test, but it will cost thousands of dollars. However, the chance for passing is small, and you need to send many sets because each will be destroyed after each test. No one is going to do that, so none of any modified headlights is legal.

All HID conversion kits and retrofits are technically "illegal." As many of you know, many forum members modify their headlights, retrofit headlights, install HID kits, aftermarket bulbs, etc... Diablo2184 is simply posting feedback about a product he installed in his vehicle.
