Corolla 2009 lowbeam problems

Friday night the lowbeams on our corolla went out, i didnt witness them go out they just never came on when we started the car. The high beams still work, and i have gone through all the fuses under the hood to see if a fuse might be blown. None of the corresponding headlight fuses were faulty, i pulled the bulbs out (didnt actually touch the bulb itself) and they seem intact. They do have a small heat mark on the bulb, but im not sure if that would be the evidence of a burnt bulb or not. I figured it was more than a bulb issue since both of them are not coming on and the odds of both burning out simultaneously seems fairly uncommon. Anyone have any suggestions of where to look next? All the wiring seems to look intact and nothing out of the ordinary, everything else works fine. Thanks for the help in advance!

1.) are both bulbs dead?
2.) check fuses
3.) did you try flipping the headlight switch or were you depending on autolights?
